I need to get started on learning more about pharmacy in the world today. I don't really know much about Medicare or current events. I am just a beginner with only moderate knowledge. I currently work in a inpatient pharmacy which is why I feel like I need to read more. I did see the websites Julianne had posted but I need something rudimentary. Anyone?

I have a good book you can try out if you've got the time...its a fairly small book that isn't difficult to read. It addresses Health Care and all the issues around it: National Health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, HMO's, Managed Care, and more. Not sure if B&N carries it, but you could check their website or amazon's and enter in the ISBN: 0-07-142311-7

Understanding Health Policy
A Clinical Approach

By: Thomas S. Bodenheimer and Keven Grumbach

Hope this helps...its a book they made us read for a Healthcare class at my school.

Cool that you work in an inpatient pharmacy. You're in a perfect environment to learn. Ask questions at work. See if the people you encounter on a daily basis can steer you towards places to get your questions answered. Not only will you gain knowledge, but you'll catch the eye of practitioners and experts. Networking is advantageous in every field and at every level.

Sometimes the pharmacist/pharmacy personnel keep trade magazines/journals around. Reading those would help. If they don't have any there you could always look online. PharmacyTimes has a good website.
