Anyone know what is the benefit of doing a dual degree like PhramD and Phd together? does it open more doors? more salary? It is worth the more years in school?

Go into academia and become a professor or do research, or both.

If you move up to higher positions (i.e. dean of the college of pharmacy) in academia, you can get paid more than a retail staff pharmacist.

If you want to quit being a pharmacist and become a professor (not in pharmacy practice) someday, you could do it.

it's not going to open more doors if you misspell pharmD twice with regards to the ratio of words you've used. LOL.
🙂

UOP is a good school for you if you're looking to do this. it's close to davis too. go to their website. I'm sure theyll give you something.

We had quite a few people coming in to UofM with the intention of a PharmD/PhD, but there's only a few left. I assume they really want to be in academia, but I don't know how they're going to fit a residency into their plans (if at all). Most of the people who quit the program just thought the PharmD program was overwhelming, or they discovered that they only want to go through 4 years of educational rigor. I even foolishly thought about it at one point in time 🙂

Also, you have to think about what your PhD is going to be in - focus towards pharmaceutical sciences or social administrative?

Thank guys for all your responses! Now I am leaning more towards just a plain Pharm D.
