I am an international medical graduate starting a graduate program. I just want to know what would be my chances of getting a good residency spot in IM after the completion of my PhD?

Are you asking whether having your PhD will improve your chances of getting a US residency spot as a foreign medical graduate? Sorry, I don't know the answer, but I think clarifying the question might help others who are more in the know answer it for you.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, I am an IMG, and I'm ECFMG certified, did not match last year, and am about to start a graduate program. Though research is great but I also want to continue with the clinical side, so I was wondering what would be my chances of getting an Internal Medicine residency in a good program after the completion of my PhD?
