Hi everyone, I would love any input on possible questions I may be asked during a PhD Clinical Psyc interview. Here is my list so far, and please let me know if I should be prepared for anything else:

1. Why do you want to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology?
2. Why our program?
3. Why should we choose you for the position over someone else?
4. What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years / 10 years?
6. What experiences have you had in working with groups? What was your role during group projects?
7. What are some of the biggest issues in psychology today?
8. What are your research interests? What research questions would you like to answer?
9. How would your professors and mentors describe you?
10. What are your hobbies?
11. Explain a difficult ethical dilemma you've faced and how you handled it.
12. Describe your theoretical orientation.
13. Why do you want to work with me (from the POI)?
14. What have you learned from previous research experience?
15. What have you learned from previous clinical experience?
16. What are your professional goals?

Thanks for the input! 🙂

In my doc program we ask applicants something to the effect of- "Describe an experience, in your personal or professional life, that has impacted the way you consider culture and its importance to clinical work."

I just got done with my second and likely last interview. 5, 8, 10 and 14 on your list were definitely the most common. My small piece of advice is if you stay with a graduate student, really try to get to know your POI by getting information from them and of course talk to your POI at any informal events as well.

The reason for that is each professor seemed to have unique questions based on what they value, and doing this really helped me be prepared for a tough question from my POI at my dream school. Result still pending, but I think that allowed me to have an answer that was completely honest but well thought out.

I got asked "What Disney villain would you be and why?"

Psst... this is supposed to be a secret but there's only one right answer.

The secret is out! I heard my experimental friends got the same question at one of their interviews!

I chose Scar...I imagine I shouldn't count on an acceptance letter. >_>

Our interviewees are also asked a question regarding culture/diversity, ie. how have you experienced diversity? how do you see culture playing a role in your career?

How do you manage self care?

Any low scores/grades/discrepancies on transcripts or CV are asked about as well.
