Phd to MD

I have a master's degree and also I am doing a Phd. I am applying for MD program for fall 2006 and when I submit my AMCAS application, I would have finished most of the Phd course and research stuff. I am planning to finish writing and defend my thesis sometime in between the medical school years.
Will the AMCAS and adcom accept this?
Anybody in this situiation before, please help.

There are some threads about this in the nontraditional forum. I am in the same position, one year ahead of you (I should be graduating this Dec.) and I chose to wait one more year to apply (for 2006 rather than 2005). I felt that it would be too stressful to be trying to write up my dissertation while I was doing my first year of med school; since I am already ten years older, what's one more, right? I did take the MCAT this past Aug. though to get it out of the way, and I highly recommend taking it early if you can.

Most likely you will have to finish your PHD BEFORE MEDICAL SCHOOL or take a terminal masters. It would be nearly impossible to write a disseration M1 year, just not enough time. Plus this would have to be agreed upon with your graduate committee and I just dont see that happening. Also many MD programs wont accept you until you have finished your current degree program. Which means that you can withdraw from the PHD and take a masters. Medschools dont care what degree you end up with once you are admitted. I was in the 4th yr of my PHD and had to take to take a Masters in the end just bc I was not going to finish my PHD before M1 yr started. Trust me, just not anytime M1 year!

Did you take the MCAT already? You need a lot of time preparing the test also
