Hey, everyone seems to be getting all stressed out abou the PCATS and required courses. At PCP your taken right out of HS, and as long as you maintain a certain GPA through your sophmore year, your taken right into the school of pharm. I'm going to be a freshman, and only now am I realizing how lucky I am to have been accepted into the school. This year I was told there were too many applicants, and too many people accepted the school's offer of admission, and now there is a housing crisis.

However, I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with the school. It's the first college of pharmacy in the nation. It just seems as if most of you are applying to west coast pharmacy schools. Are there any grads from PCP on this forum?

The last time I checked UCSF was the first pharmacy school in the nation, not Philadelphia College of Pharmacy

Congratulations Yetti831, you're indeed so damn lucky. I really don't know why most people on here are only applying to schools on the West coast... The weather is the only reason why I am applying to schools in California. Heck I am going to apply all over the country, I don't discriminate I incriminate. Ops I take this back!!! I' m not applying to schools located in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Kentucky there is something about those states... I wish Hawaii had a pharmacy school, life would have been good.

Philadelphia College of Pharmacy was founded in 1821.
UCSF's School of Pharmacy started off as the California College of Pharmacy back in 1872.

Congratulations Yetti!

I don't think that's how the original poster intended it.

Isn't that what I said ?
I said that UCSF was number 1... maybe you guys misread my thread.

I really want to go into pharmaceutical business. USP has an MBA program, but I would prefer to go to Wharton(if I can get in). I can't see myself working in a pharmacy for too many years. Does anyone know someone who works for a pharm company? Salary?

You can apply to USP for entrance into the pharmacy school after your sophmore year as well. The faculty is amazing. Although, the school itself is unorganized. I don't even want to begin. From financial aid to housing.

Pharmacy is a wonderful career!
Congratulations to everyone!

It doesn't seem too bad. Although, I've been told the rate of attrition is very high. A friend of mine lived in a sweet with 9 people. Five of them failed out. Lazy asses!

Yetti831 your fall schedule is like woah, what PE class are you taking ?

I have no idea what my PE class is. I think rifle and darts are two options. Haha, darts...::shakes head:: As for the schedule. I was told that those who get A's study at least 30 hours a week. I agree, though, it isn't exactly easy. I think I will do well though. 🙂

Yetti

I'm entering my fourth year at USP this year, and so far it hasn't been too bad. As you said there is a relatively high rate of attrition, but that can often be attributed to people being lazy and just not studying or doing anything to pass. Also you are right, most people that get A's study there asses off. PE class pretty much covers a variety of sports and activities, ie rifles, archery, basketball, tennis, etc..

I know, I wasn't being serious. The curriculum is simply difficult. How was your freshman year experience? Are you satisfied with the school?

Hi Yetti831, I am a 2nd yr transfer to USP this fall. I am in your biology lecture class and biology pre-lab. But I don't think I have the same lab class as ya. How do you like the orientation so far?
I'm glad someone from USP uses this forum : ) Hope to meet ya?

Phillypharm ---> How are the classes for 3rd year? I heard 3rd year and 5th year are the hardest? What classes are you taking now as a 4th year student? Any advice for us (the newbies to USP) - who wants to study very hard?? Thank you so much!
Also are you in any Pharmacy related organizations? Any student organizations you can recommend to us?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND ADVICE!!!

hey, im a 2nd yr student doing pharm and mba. I understand why you would want to do MBA at wharton, though MBA offerred by USP is a pharmaceutical MBA and is very geared towards the industry. From day one, the issues talked about are all in the pharmaceutical industry. And there are great people teaching these classes. My instructor for Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing class right now is Cindy Delano, who is a northeast division manager of Hospira, which was recently spinned off by Abbott Labs. The MBA program is great and you will be easily hired into the industry and will understand the problems and situations in the industry quite readily.
I have asked some alumni about their thoughts on pursuing MBA while doing my PharmD. They have told me that it would have been better if I did my MBA after I complete Pharmacy because if I manage to get into an industry after my PharmD, the industry will pay the whole tuition for the degree. I understand where they are coming from since my debt will be over 200k once i graduate with both degrees
[because pharmD is approx 23k per yr. MBA is $1000 per credit which means $56000 for 56 credits of MBA minus $12000 since I take 12 credits of MBA classes as my PharmD electives before I martriculate into the program]
but I LOVE the MBA classes and I will continue to take them, despite those alumnae's advices.

AND, btw, from experience, 1st year-EASY, unless if u have wolbac, who is not the easiest. 2nd year-slightly difficult because of Organic, anatomy and physics. Anatomy tests are difficult and test your critical thinking ability. And I have heard that third year is hard because you are taking biochem, physio, microbio and immuno. I will take biochem 1 &2 in summer along with microbiol, so that I can take MBA classes in fall. And yeah, i forgot to mention, if you wanna do MBA and have a regular schedule, you need to take classes in summer all the time.
