What do people think of the Philly programs? I know there's an old thread about them, as well as Scutwork being a bit outdated, so I was wondering if any current residents have any knowledge to offer. Thanks!

I was also curious as to how i should rank the 3 philly programs (jeff, temple, drexel) I interviewed at these 3 and they all seemed the same more or less. jeff is probably the cushier program and in a nice area, but i'm not sure how thrilled i would be about leaving at 3 everyday. temple seems like a decent program, the only one w/ trauma, but couple of the residents i spoke with were not happy with the program. finally, we all know drexel is on probation but the new PD seems like a great guy and has great plans for turning the program around. any input or opinions on differentiating these three programs?

Why were the Temple residents not happy? Just curious as I am an MS3 at Temple and will, of course, do my first Anesthesiology rotation there. Feel free to PM if you'd prefer to.

i'm curious about this myself. i am a CA1 at temple and have yet to hear of anyone who is unhappy with the program. in conversations with others, everytime the topic has come up, there has never been any doubt that if we had to do the match over again, we would choose temple.

temple: great gun and knife club. you will be an expert trauma anesthesiologist when you leave there.
i interviewed (back in the day) at a few of the programs there. decided coming east (for my wife) that i didn't want the city life anymore, and have never looked back. i don't think it ultimately matters where you do your training. philly is a great town. but, you better buy a gun. and stay away from drexel...

I'm an MSIV at temple and from the CA3s I've talked to they are unhappy with working too much and not a) being taught or b) having enough time to teach themselves. I loved temple for med school but am not interviewing for anes residency there (or anywhere in philly, for that matter). I think the PD is a good guy there is just not enough room to make the changes he needs to.
i'm a CA1 at jeff and i dunno who keeps sayin the jeff residents leave at 3 everyday, it's more like 5 to 6 pm, 10 to 12 hrs a day here are the norm, leaving at 3 pm is the once in a blue moon exception, we work 65 to 75 hrs a week with a wide variety of cases but only get the occasional knife n gun victim

I'm also a CA-1 at jeff and having interviewed at all the philly programs can definitely say that we have the best mix of academics, caseload/variety, and a very reasonable schedule. True, getting out at three isn't unheard of but much more likely 5 or 6 after consults are done. 65 - 70 hour work week is the norm but we are a young department (translate many young attentings willing to teach) and that makes going to work fun. All in all I couldn't be happier than I am at TJUH.
