Phoenix/Scottsdale

Hi all. I've been considering a move to one of these cities. Can anyone who has either worked or trained there speak to the type of "climate" that exists there in regards to psychologists? I'm coming from the Bay Area where obviously the culture is very pscyhologist/therapy-friendly. What is it like in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area? Are people receptive to our line of work? Are there lots of out-of-pocket clients like there are in the Bay Area? Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Great question...i've been wondering about that area too.

I'd also like to get any feedback on:

Louisiana (Baton Rouge and New Orleans)
Oregon/Washington area (or general Pacific NW)

SFPsyD, the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is actually quite similar to the SF Bay Area in terms of attitude towards psychologists. SES-wise, they are fairly similar, and many people move from the Bay Area to the Phoenix area which is very rapidly growing. Scottsdale is one of the wealthiest cities in the country, so there are definitely a lot of out-of-pocket clients in that area. One of the main differences between the cities would be racial - the Bay Area is much more diverse than Phoenix/Scottsdale, which has a very high proportion of Caucasians. Depending on what aspects of psychology you are most interested in, this may be pertinent to you. Hope this helps!
