Anyone able to share how they came to choose physiatry? How it stacked up to other specialties you were interested in? What you wish you would've known before you chose it?

Liked Sports and Neuro…now I pretty much do sports med on Neuro patients

Unsure if I wanted to be a doctor and got a job in undergrad as a rehab tech. Considered going for PT or MD and like the medical side more and went for MD.

Like neuro academically, but had a terrible neuro rotation. Was an athlete in a formal life, so had an interest in ortho stuff. Knew I didn't want to do anything operative. Really valued work/life balance and didn't want any nights. Had heard about PM&R from a friend's dad who did it. Did a couple of rotations and found "my people." Liked that I saw attendings combine seeming different areas within the field to create their practice. Interests within the field have changed as I went through training but like what I do now within the field.
