Hi SDN forums - I'm currently working on a masters of science in environmental engineering at a top university, but I am considering a career change to medicine. I have some of the prereqs out of the way - general chemistry, physics, english, and math, by virtue of my science major, but have taken no organic chem or biology. I'm a little overwhelmed and am planning to graduate in June. I'm not terribly thrilled about the prospect of waiting two whole years after I graduate to matriculate, especially since I only have about 7 courses left to take.
I think I'm a fair applicant, 3.6 undergrad gpa, 3.8 graduate gpa. Have not yet taken the MCAT. I wonder if you all could give me some advice on what to do. Should I just tough out the wait, take my biology and chemistry over summer and fall, study hard for the MCAT and take it in spring, then apply next July to enter in 2009? I've heard about post-bac linkage programs, but I think a formal post-bac may be a waste of my time since I don't need a huge number of courses. Thanks for any help you can provide.
