I was always under the impression that pre-reqs had to be complete prior to matriculation, not application. However, it has recently been brought to my attention that some schools will not review your application unless you have completed all pre-reqs.

The only pre-req I am missing is Physics 2. I took the lab portion for physics 2, but due to a scheduling conflict I couldn't fit the lecture into my schedule. I am planning on taking it spring 2018-- I go to a small school where physics 1, gen chem 1, etc are offered in the fall and then physics 2, etc is offered in the spring.

I did not put physics 2 on my AMCAS/AACOMAS since it obviously doesn't appear on my transcript as an in-progress course since I am not yet registered for it. Will this hurt me, or can schools connect the dots and know that I plan on taking it prior to matriculation? I know this probably seems like a stupid question, but I just want to be sure.

Virtually all schools have the requirement due prior to matriculation or a set frame before that. I am not aware of any school that will not review your app prior to all prereqs being completed. do you have specific school names with this no review policy?
Temple's website says this, but I can't find confirmation anywhere; I emailed admissions to ask them, so hopefully they will get back to me soon.

"If pre-requisite coursework is not complete when the AMCAS application is submitted, the application will be placed on hold until an official transcript indicating the final grades is received."

It seems like such a weird requirement...they would be eliminating around half of their applicant pool if this is a strict rule for them, I would imagine.

Out of all of the schools on my list (22), Temple is the only one where I found a statement like this. NYMC has some interesting wording on their website too, so I'm not sure what their stance is. In one spot it says, " However, all courses offered in satisfaction of the pre-medical course requirements for admission must have been taken or be in progress at, or accepted as transfer credits by, an accredited college in the United States or Canada, and must be acceptable to that institution toward a baccalaureate degree in arts or sciences" which leads me to believe we have until matriculation. However, further down on the website page they mention something weird about them reviewing your application even without the biochemistry requirement as long as it is in progress, so I'm not sure if that means they expect you to have all of the other pre-reqs complete. Here is a link to the webpage if you are interested... MCAT & Pre-medical Course Requirements

If Temple is requiring it before reviewing your app that's pretty messed up. NYMC seems like they are fine with it. I would avoid spending money on Temple's secondary if that is the case

It is, unfortunately, too late for that... :smack:

Contact the school anonymously and ask for a clarification on this.

@gonnif They just emailed me back and said this: "Yes, that is our policy. If you are taking any final courses in the Fall to complete the requisites, the Admissions Committee may review but no final decisions on invitation to interview can be determined."

So, I guess I'm out for that school!

Are there any other schools like Temple that need all the requirements before applying?

I couldn't find any more out of the 21 other schools I applied to.

I would suggest a quick google search for all of your schools though, especially if money is tight. I wasted $39 for a primary and then $85 on a secondary to Temple, so I wish I would've looked into it beforehand. Unfortunately, it's not something I would have even thought to look up since I've never heard of a school doing this, so I hope this post helps everyone else!

I know that UNC requires all pre-reqs to be required prior to application, and Cornell requires them by January 31, so it really depends on the school. Seems to be in the minority, though. That's why it is taking me forever to add schools. I've completed all pre-reqs, but some are over 15 years old, so some schools won't accept them and I am taking upper level classes this year, but that will only count for matriculation, not application. I'll update if I find others!

EDIT: Cornell's requirement includes your two writing-intensive classes. That's the killer for me. Probably can't apply because there really aren't any more classes I could take in the fall and my first writing-intensive is too old.
