If you wanted to find wavelength for light using diffraction-grating, how would you do it with a ratio of d: D and a given angle? d is the distance between slits and D is the distance from the grating to the screen.

I am aware of these two equations: m(lambda)= d sin (theta) AND tan (theta) = y bright/ D

I just need some help deriving the equation for wavelength...ive tried just about everything. I would appreciate some guidance, rather than answers haha.
 
Is that even possible without specifying which bright band you are looking at? I know you are given an angle, But the band number (m) that corresponds to the angle depends on the wavelength of the light.

The way I see it is that you've got 2 equations with 3 unknowns: m, lamba, and y bright. That makes an underdetermined system with literally an infinite number of solutions.
