At my school, calc based physics includes lab, but algebra based physics does not. I started off taking first quarter calc based and afterwards decided to do the algebra based series. Since lab is optional, i didn't take the lab section for first quarter algebra based physics. I was wondering if this wondering if this would matter?

oh, and the optional lab section in the algebra based is taken C/NC.

Don't most medical schools require physics WITH a lab component? I took calculus based physics for my major and there was a lab component with it, but it was optional. As a chemistry major I had to take it, but engineers did not. It's best to ask your pre-med adviser since I'm sure they've dealt with this with a bunch of their students applying to medical school

If you can manage the calculus based version of the lab, take it. Otherwise, your only option is to take the labs at a different school. Maybe over the summer.

yep, they do unless they specifically say otherwise.

example: ucsd website says it requires no lab work in any of its pre-reqs.

Yeah, I heard about that. That's weird though, shouldn't they might as well add it. I wonder how many people only apply to UCSD and not complete the labs and get in.

Can't you just take the lab section during another semester? Every school I applied to (15) required labs for everything (Bio, gen chem, o chem, physics).
