I am in the process of completing prereqs for Pharm school. I got my BA in Psych a while ago.....99..and initially started off premed. I took Physics I &II in undergrad...however at the end of the Physics II semester, I fell ill (seemed to happen alot then...poor young sickly child i was...) and didn't complete a lab. I recall the lab was run by a TA and if you missed one you basically got an F. So , I missed an assignment, got an F, and didn't pursue it further because at the time I didnt need the class to graduate (and I was much less forthright and demanding than I am now 😉). Now that I am interested in Pharm I need the class...for at least 1 of the schools i'm interested in. The F portion was in the lab. Do I just have to take physics II over again? I'd be wary of this, if I didn't just take organic chem I for the first time and get an A...12 yrs after I set foot in an undergrad science classroom while working fulltime and parttime and volunteering.

Is there any way to rectify this that you know of? Maybe I have to bite the bullet and take it again. Have u ever heard of situations like this?

I think you could probably just take the lab again in the worst case scenario. I remember a few people repeating labs while I was going through pre-reqs.

Wow congrats on the A in Ochem. That's a feat in and of itself.

Schools require a certain number of hours in each subject (ie they might say 3-4 hours of Physics). So, if your lecture was 3 credit hours and you got a C or above then that might satisfy the requirement or it might not. If it doesn't you would have to take that lab again to get the 4th credit hour. It really depends on the policy of individual schools, so the safest thing to do is just get in touch with the schools you're interested in and ask them this question.

At any rate, the F in Physics lab has a good chance of coming up in conversation at an interview. So you might have to explain that situation to an adcom at some point.

🙂 Cheers!

Wow...I'd LOVE to just take a physics lab all by itself! 3-4 hrs once a week is much better than having to go through a lab, recitation AND lab. I had no dream I could do this. I'm sure it will come up in an interview, though. Most schools require concurrent registration in the lecture...or at least they say they do. I need to talk to them...after I talk to my targeted schools.

Thanks!
