So, I am an undergrad trying to register for classes. I am hoping to apply to med school for this coming cycle (starting in June.) I started out strong but I have had a few bad semesters since then, during which I wavered a bit as to whether I wanted to go into medicine at all. After a lot of consideration I have decided to indeed pursue medicine full-speed a head. My overall GPA is a 3.42 but my science GPA is a hair below a 3.0; as such, I am planning on retaking O-chem this fall (to raise my GPA and complete the pre-req). If I do well that should put my science GPA above a 3.0.

I took an advanced anatomy last semester and got a B-; all the same, it was one of my favorite classes ever. Of course, it isn't a pre-req but I feel that retaking it for an A will not only boost my science GPA but also give me opportunities to tutor in it, to get letters or recommendations from the professors (one of whom is a retired MD) and otherwise strengthen my science background.

The problem is, due to scheduling conflicts, if I re-take Anat I would be forced to delay taking physics I until the winter and physics II until the summer, which might affect when I can wisely take the MCAT, apply, etc

What would you guys do?

Physics. It is necessary for the MCAT and I'd assume you are planning on taking the MCAT in the summer and applying next year? Without a strong physics base you will struggle with the MCAT. Electricity and magnetism is something most people struggle with on the MCAT even after taking physics. Without Physics 2 it will be even more difficult.

As important as GPA is, the MCAT is also of great importance. Keeping in mind that schools have rolling admission applying early can be key. Trust me, I have been on the receiving end of a late application and an early application. Applying early has worked out much better. With that in mind, I would say to take the physics now as to not delay your MCAT and thus delaying your application.

I see no reason to retake a class you got a B in. Take physics and get it over with.

Physics, because you need to know if you are cut out for this path. I mean that in a very respectful way. (Physics will be one of my litmus tests too!) Retaking anatomy doesn't give you an advantage if you decide (after physics) that you won't be going forward with med school, it just delayed the decision and cost you time/$ in the process.
You mentioned that you are already retaking orgo. A retake, in my opinion, can give you a false sense of mastery/ability to do harder work. It's not like you'll have the ability to retake all your med school classes if/when you get in. I'd suggest working harder on getting the grade you want the FIRST time from here on out. If it's too hard, it might be too hard.

I agree with the crowd, Physics is a must, one for the MCAT prep, and Two, alot of school require it! Anatomy is a great class, but physics is the one you need my friend.

Wow, it's hard to argue with unanimity. Physics it is.

CookDeRosa makes a good point, too. I guess getting on with it will allow me to take more science classes and do well in them the first time. That will convince adcoms I can handle med school.
