What is the magnitude of the horizontal component of air resistance question.

For this one, if Force of air resistance=pv^2. And, vx=vcos(theta), then wouldn't Force of air resistance=p(vx^2cos2(theta))

I don't understand why they just multiple the pv^2 by cos theta without substituting v for vcostheta then squaring it.

thanks
