gotta confused,pls clarify
following infusion of lactic acid into the blood of a health subject,arterial ph falls to 7.35
which of the foll would be expected to occur
a) a decrease in ventilation
b)a rise in ph of csf
c)a decrease in arterial pO2
d)a rise in arterial pco2
e)a decrease in the ratio
pls exp

infusion of lactic acid = metabolic acidosis

compensation = respiratory alkalosis (hyperventilating)

so a is wrong as you would see an increase in ventilation

b looks good (hyperventilation increases the pH)

c is wrong as pO2 shouldn't change too much

d is wrong as this is the opposite of what should happen. Arterial pCO2 should drop with hyperventilation

I have no idea what ratio you are referring to in E so we'll just throw that answer choice away 🙂

thanks
yes b is the rt answer...twas resp compensation for met acidosis..ph of csf got me confused..
thanks🙂
