I need to take one more intro-level biology class for my major and I'm not sure which one to take.... People have told me that I should take Physiology because it is helpful for med school/MCAT and its good prep for the upper-level Animal Physiology I need to take next year. However, this class is notorious for being extremely difficult and a GPA killer. I'm debating whether I should take Ecology instead because it is considered to be a much easier course at my school but I'm not very interested in it and it probably doesn't correspond much with medicine. Other bio classes I've already taken include upper-level Microbiology and Cell Biology and I have somewhat struggled in them. Any thoughts?

Physiology hands down. 🙂

U gonna learn physiology later anyway, might as well take ecology, it's an interesting class

physi has been the number one non requirement class suggested that I've found.

Physiology is high-yield for the MCAT, so I'd recommend it over ecology for that reason. However, you can always teach yourself what's needed for the MCAT if you have to. Physiology is clearly the most helpful subject for a premed, but you'll have to weigh that fact along with GPA concerns and your interest in ecology.

Personally despite knowing that physiology is higher yield on the MCAT, I'd take ecology as you need to maintain your GPA. I made the mistake of taking intro physio my freshman year and tanked my GPA because of the difficulty of the class. You can also self study the material when the time comes.

Another option is taking physio at a different University over the summer as it's not an explicit prerequisite.

Blame it on the a-a-a-autocorrect.

I loved Ecology class and it really diversifies your knowledge of biology and the world. But yeah, if you just want to learn to prepare for the future then I guess physiology is the best.
