I think I remember somebody post a link here several weeks ago about piano article with pictures and explanation about a certain parts

does anyone have that link?

Let me save you some time and tell you not to worry about that. What makes the piano RC difficult is the amount of tone questions which will not be solved by knowing more about pianos. The answers to the questions are simply found in the passage.

I heard that there is a variation of the piano passage, but it's about the physical underpinning of the modern electric keyboard.

Therefore, I think it's in your best interest to study the electric keyboard as well. Just to be on the safe side, I would definitely brush up on how a pipe organ works as well. Also, don't slack off on your review of wave mechanics.

Absolutely,

Mine had the version about pianos and wave mechanics. I would definitely look into that. Physics formulas should help with that.

OP: Waste of time

You are just going to freak out if you get the Piano article if you keep worrying about it. Just practice using topscore, achiever and kaplan. They are accurate with RC.

No kidding. I had never even heard any mention on here of the 3 passages I got on my DAT, and reading up on pianos isn't going to give you a leg-up on the passage

I actually visited a piano making factory so I could get a feel for pianos from scratch.

Like other people said, knowing facts about pianos won't really help you. I got the passage and I think everyone makes a bigger deal about it than necessary. If you see that you get that passage, maybe just appropriate a little more time for it than the other two passages. But I think you will do fine if you have practiced with Topscore.

In lieu of studying for the DAT, I spent the last 2 months learning the piano, in the odd chance that I got the piano passage...

^Exactly! I had the passage and he is right. Stop wasting your time studying a piano, just go read journals and get your actual comprehension up. But the second statement is not true the answers are not really found in the passage its more of an inference set of questions. Also a little tricky!

it might be good to brush up on the difference between pitch, tone, chords, bass, and all that other stuff related to keys and notes that i have no clue about . .

Definitely, and harpsichord would be a good thing to add to the collection of keyboard instruments.

I agree with you, there were no tone questions, only inference ones. However I think having a background with piano would help even for the inference questions, but doing quick catch up readings on some encyclopedia piano articles before the test just won't do.
