On the AMCAS screen , after we selected MDPHD for one school, there is a list of specific phd programs we can tick, eg. phd in phamarcology. It seems we can select multiple programs.

What are the consequences if I select all or them? Or, since I don't want to tie my research interest in one small area, select none of them?

I selected none. Dunno what the consequences will be 😀.

i don't think it will really matter that much. For some schools, it might be the criteria they use to pick people to interview you based on your department/degree interest but I really doubt it holds a lot of weight in anything important.

I know that some schools use this information because certain PhD programs require different interviews (BME mainly comes to mind for this...I know of several schools where the BME dept. has special interviews/requirements on top of the MD/PhD requirements). If you are interested in entering a non-science PhD, this information may also be used to determine if you are required to submit a GRE score.

You don't need to know what you want to focus on for quite a few years yet, but you may run into some problems at certain schools if you select every option (esp. if you check BME or non-science PhD options). I would suggest checking the option closest to what you are interested in - no school is going to hold you to it.

lol,
If I pick more than one program, each program would think that the other program would get this guy and thus I'm getting love from nobody. Do you think this is logical?

In general this doesn't matter at all and no one looks at it. The exceptions would be if certain schools have programs that do things in a particular way. For instance, at some schools the BME programs may require the GRE, etc. Overall though, no one cares.
