Psychology vs English.
Which would a medical school prefer to see?

probably the one you're enthusiastic about and do well in. i'd think that'd matter more but i'm not a med student so, grain o salt.

Thanks for the reply, But I would do equally well for both & I am passionate about both subjects....so now it's about what they want to see....

The first reply was spot on. No one cares what you major in. Do well in the prereqs, the MCAT, and your other classes. That's that.

You also may consider which major would best prepare you for med school and life as a physician. If you like both English and Psych equally, then go for Psych as you will learn things which you will heavily utilize throughout the entirety of your professional life. I am doing a psych/bio double major with an unofficial minor in philosophy. It works for me.

Pick whatever makes you happiest. If you can't decide, double major.

I was a Anthropology and Human Biology, Medieval Studies double major with a double minor in Theater and History. Then a masters in Space Studies. I could still give a rat's butt about what people do or do not expect to see. All I cared about was what made me happy and I took what I felt made me a well-educated person.

I dont agree. On the flip side, consider what you will spend the rest of your life in education about and maybe chose the major that is different so you can study something else that you are passionate about before committing a large portion of your life to medicine.

But I'm not a "get prepared for med school" person, so take it as you like.

I agree with 7star. Don't pick a major just because you think it will prepare you for medical school. I don't think any particular major makes you more prepared than any other as long as you have taken the prerequisites. I'm fairly certain regardless of major you will get more in-depth detail than you could possibly want in the basic science years of medical school.

Whether you major in English, or Psych, or double major, do it because you want to, not because you think it's what med schools want to see or what sets you up best for med school. Some of the most interesting doctors I've met have unusual paths/backgrounds.

One I know was born overseas with both parents working in the Foreign Service, basically a citizen of the world learning the languages of the various duty stations of his parents, double majored in Philosophy and Linguistics, got a master's in cultural anthropology, and is now a subspecialist in ophthalmology.

Pick a major that you will enjoy!
