How is the picture supposed to be for the schools that requires it? 2x2 passport? Sorry for the silly question. Did a little search and got no answer....

2x2 passport. Shoulders up usually light shirt on a white background.

This picture is very important. The adcoms want to see the real you, the real applicant. So, when you first get up in the morning, before you head to the bathroom have someone snap a head shot of you.

Of course, dress up and actually you can take a chest up picture. 2x2 is a fairly small picture but can capture the top fairly well.

I second the sediments of the earlier responses.

However, if you want to take it up a notch, think something along the lines of this:

Add this, and you're golden, literally.

I don't have a passport, so would I have to go to a professional place to get a picture taken or could I have a picture taken with a digital camera and then crop it myself and have 2x2 copies made up?

yes you could.
But passport software could make this easier.

YES. Stand behind a white wall and have someone take a picture of you, like as if you are getting a picture taken at the DMV. Crop it out and do whatever you please with it and send it out. They just want to put a face with the application, no need to go out and spend money on professional snapshots.

i know people joke about the picture a lot, but i just want to put on that my first time applying, i sort of half assed it (wal-mart passport photo taking place, was wearing a tank top) and during my interview one interviewer actually asked me why it was so lame.

my second year, i got my boyfriend to take it outside, was wearing a button-up shirt, nice background. no one mentioned anything at my interview. not saying it's what kept me out the first year, but i was sort of kicking myself afterwards.

Anyone know what schools actually require this? I wasn't even aware of this till I saw this thread.

Once AADSAS opens you will be able to look under the list of schools and it tells you what each school requires when you apply to them, if there is an additional fee to be sent to the school directly, a picture, a supplemental application and it will also tell you to "only do (some of the above) when an admissions officer contacts you" The site is very easy to navigate and they give you all the information you need. Every school I applied to required a picture at some point, whether it be at the interview, when I applied, or if the school took the picture on the day of the interview.

Maybe it's just me but does anyone else picture dental mom to be slammin? 😍

I don't think it matters that much. To be honest, I used some old high school senior pictures and when I ran out I used a cropped picture of me at a bar. You couldn't really tell it was a bar once I cropped it and it made a great 2x2. So as others have said - don't go wasting money getting photos taken.

I took a "passport" chest up photo wearing a sport coat and a tie. Probably more than what is needed but you are only going to look like an idiot if you do less than what is expected. Throw on a shirt/tie and some jeans and go to Walmart and have them take an 8 dollar passport photo. If you can take good digital photos at home and print on photo paper then go ahead. Proceed to make several copies (probably illegal if from Walmart but I didn't have a problem with it) and send 'em.

Exactly! You're apply for professional school and this is the first visual impression aside from writing and numbers.

mine were slightly bigger than passport, or 2x2, whatever it was. it was fine, never got mentioned by adcoms. no need to stress over this.

if anyone paid 12 dollars at walgreens to get a passport photo for this that is rediculous and makes me want to barf.

Barf on dude. I'm going to Walmart. I want every aspect of my application to be perfect (well the parts that I can control). No sense on getting lazy at this point or gripping over $12 bucks!
