I finished my first PFM (winged) and had a small undercut in the lingual wall. After removing the undercut I did not notice a ditch that I created. I spent hours pindexing and noticed the ditch after finishing the pindex system. Is it possible to cut a new PFM and somehow flawless incorporate the new PFM removable piece in the place of the old ditched version? I would really really appreciate feedback on this one. I tried a wax pattern on it and everything seems to come off and I know I can block out the ditch. Yet my professors are extremely "anal" about perfection so cutting a new prep seems to be the best option so I dont waste time weeks down the line starting from scratch because of this ditching error. THANKS for any input!

Are you talking about a real patient or a practice?
Either way, you will be pindexin a new cast...

you should take note next time to look carefully at your impression before moving on. I almost guarantee you could have noticed that ditch at this stage when you were checking the finish line integrity.

Yup, I agree here... this happened to me once and the best way is to pindex another cast. It sucks, but the margin on your die is the most important part of your pindexing, so you're going to want to make sure it is flawless.

At Tufts you would have to bring the patient back to remove that undercut. The more time you spend now on your prep and labwork means less time spent on adjustments on delivery. Would you want your lab doing the same thing to your labwork? At the very least you would have to redo the pindexing. A ditch in your margin means an inconsistent pfm margin which will cause microleakage.
