Help I have an interview tomorrow morning and I need to pick a shirt! I just bleached/ruined my interview blue shirt and I dont have any other conservative plain shirts except for a very nice pink shirt that I could wear. How do you think that would go down? Also as my name suggest, I m a large guy so I dont know if pink is necessarily a good fit for me. Any thoughts?

run to the mall or to target and get a white button down. you still have time so hurry! i wouldn't recommend wearing the pink

I dunno, I think pink is risque no matter your size.

Maybe it's a good time to make a quick dash to Walmart and pick up a cheap white shirt.

i wouldnt do it if i were a large man

Now it is not the time to take fashion risks. Go to the nearest store and get yourself a new shirt.

Back in the day, pink was considered a masculine color because it is bold and bright, whereas blue was feminine due to its softness. Wear what you feel comfortable in. Good luck.

This is great advice, if your goal is to feel comfortable. If on the other hand your goal is to get an acceptance into medical school - go to Wal Mart, buy an appropriate shirt... iron and starch it, and then go to your interview.

wear pink only if you have pretty eyes like me 😀

A school is not going to reject you for wearing a pink shirt. And if they do, who wants to go to a school that is that judgmental anyway?

Yeah, pink isn't a great idea. You don't want to stand out for the wrong reasons. I second the idea of running to walmart/target/mall to get a cheap dress shirt. The fit/quality really doesn't matter since you'll probably be wearing a jacket anyway.

don't get a dress shirt at Target or K-Mart, unless you are interested in serving the underserved

If I were going to make a mistake in my dress, I think I would want to dress too conservative. Yes, you probably could get by with common colors that people wear to most offices from time to time. But then there are offices (banks) where even blue is considered to extreme. My brother-in-law works at a bank and it's white only. There are even people who say you don't really have to wear a suit. And maybe they're right. Maybe you could just go in with just a nice dress outfit and no one would even think twice. I'm not going to be the one to test it, however.

Eh. People on here are way too paranoid about everything. When I asked about whether to bring a particular bag with me on interviews, almost everyone said not to. I took it anyway, since it was the only one I have and I needed to carry stuff with me, and I haven't had a problem yet. The only people who have brought it up are people from SDN who recognize it from the picture I posted in my question. So seriously, I don't think a pink shirt is that big a deal, especially if it is a paler pink, and not in-your-face blinding pink.

I agree with the last poster. Its all about confidence. If your confident in it you'll be fine. Pink is fine as long as your tie matches it. Your wearing a jacket anyways, you won't see too much of the pink under a jacket and tie. Bring a bag, be confident and you'll be fine.

Maybe it's paranoid, maybe it's sagacious. All I know is I have spent the last two and a half years of my life going back to school to prepare for this, spent over 2g on the app. process so far--not including hotel and travel expenses, and if I don't get in, I'm going to be spending another year in school and dropping another 2g on apps next year, too, not to mention retaking the mcat. There's a lot riding on that 30 minute pow-wow. It would be silly if the only impression I leave ends up being, "wow, that guy wore a strange shirt." I don't want them to be thinking about my clothes at all.

Hey guys thanks for the advice. I decided to go with the pink and I have a tie that matches. I'm 6 foot 9 260 pounds so finding the right shirt is a battle so I went against trying to find one last minute.

Bleach it.

If you can't think of something interesting enough to say or talk about that will override their first thought being about your shirt, you have more to worry about than what you're wearing.

Bleach it.

Funny you should mention that because I bleached the collar of my blue shirt by accident with a bleach pen (i thought it was a stain pen), and one of my friends said to just bleach the collar and cuffs and have one of those snazzy two tone shirts

and it looked good that way? I wouldn't think you could bleach it enough to actually get a bright white.

yes, but who doesn't want to go to a school that shows good judgment?

Do you want your future classmates wearing pink? I think not.

Hahaha Of course not. I want my entire class to wear shades of gray.

Whats wrong with pink? I think its bold of you to show a little individuality, as long as you don't go over the top. Good luck!

So in recap of this (and so many other) posts on SDN:

"Hey guys, I have problem Y that I have decided on solution X to, your feedback is completely irrelevant. Please tell me it will all be OK as I need reassurance from a bunch of strangers"

OK, I will play along. It will all most likely be OK.

The biggest reason to play the game in my book is so that if you DO get a rejection, you don't spend the rest of your life thinking "If only I had dressed appropriately"

Good luck at your interview!

I'm laughing at this one because I know a Dean of Admissions (a large man) who loves pink dress shirts and seems to wear them all the time.

If your interview is at that school (I'm not saying where), you might be in like Flynn if you wear pink.

You could also say that you are making a statement for breast cancer awareness month. 🙄

At 6' 9" 250, I think the last thing they're going to remember is your shirt color, but that's just my $0.02.

If you are asking, you're not comfortable in pink. Get another shirt.

Everyone has their own sense of style, but I cannot stand pink on a guy. I think it looks ridiculous and I would never wear it to an interview. Besides, not only does blue look better, it is supposed to give a better subconscious feeling to the person looking at you.

Why does everyone ask if they can wear colors/patterns, etc? Why not just go on the safe side and dress in a dark colored suit with a blue or white shirt?

I saw a guy rocking a suit like this at one of my interviews (with a white or light blue shirt) and I was like 😱

Hey, whatever works, I guess.

I hope he took that hat off indoors.

Aren't you the one that said interviewees look like a funeral procession because we wear all black? What can males do to spice it up (seeing as females already have plenty of choices)?

I mean, I felt kinda weird just wearing a blue shirt because everyone else had white on! 🙁

Wear a colored shirt. I doubt anyone on the interview committee would fault you for it (women wearing see through blouses are another thread -- not good). Wear a shade of gray, wear navy, wear a subtle plaid or check. Wear lemon yellow - just don't wear the matching hat indoors. :hardy:

Gentlemen of that ethnic persuasion look much better in that color than I would, that's for sure. He looks awesome in that suit.

Without a doubt. There isn't even two sides to that argument.

It's true. Dark skin tones can do colors and look good. Purple or yellow suit jackets on light skin doesn't work. Or at least I've never seen it work. You have to dress in colors that fit you. Although that suit on anybody is probably not an interview suit.
