Hi Folks, I just had a question about the Housing at Pitt. Right now I'm looking into two places that look nice, Oak Hills and Webster Hall, both of which are about half a mile from the school.

On some apartment review sites I saw some really mixed reviews about Oak Hills, some saying it was great, others saying they wouldn't live there for more than a week because of big safety concerns. It's on Terrace about half a mile west from the school.

Any comments or thoughts I could get about that, or any other housing tips for Pitt would be great. I know a lot of people are saying to live in Shady, but I was thinking about being close to the school for my first year before moving out there.

Thanks so much!

Hey buddy,

I just wanted to tell you, Shadyside is a nice place to live.

Plus it is so close to the school, you would learn it all in a few days.

Oakland is easy to learn.

Living that close to the school, it will noisy at night.

Shadyside is a better choice.

By Noisy do you mean like lots of kids and cars, or like loud music playing at all hours from cars with subwoofers the size of tires? Have you heard anything about how safe it is at night over there?

I was also looking at another nice apartment complex called the Kenmawr or something, but it seems like it's at the very north east side of shady. Heard anything about that one?

Thanks!

Most of the area's near the school are pretty safe.

By noise I mean, kids and cars, but I wouldn't count out the occasional loud music.

I have not heard about that apartment complex, but most of shadyside will be nice enough.

You planning on driving or taking the bus? Either way, shadyside is a decent place.

I am not 100% sure, but I think they run till like 1 and then stop.

oak hill is nice. several of my classmates lived up there and didn't have any problems. so i wouldn't worry about that too much, it can get a little noisy with kids and cars. but that's life in the city.

webster hall is nice too, but i heard that it's really expensive for rent.

shadyside/squirrel hill are both beautiful areas to live, but they can come with a bit of a commute to get to school (30+ minutes depending on where you live). it's also hard if it snows because the buses run late or don't run at all.

north oakland is a nice place to live. you can easily find an apartment within 1 mile or so from school. i'd stay away from south oakland, cheap rent is great but it's not the safest place ever.

here's some big realtors in pittsburgh around the university.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, my dad used to live in Chicago and he warned me about the buses and snow causing problems. I guess I might see you guys at the ASDA Picnic next week!
