I want to start this thread because everybody else has done it for the schools they are going to. I just got the best news of my life. I GOING TO P-I-T-T. So i wanted to share my excitment with other students that are already in or are coming to the school in 2009. I want to get to know my future class mates and learn something about everybody.

I start, my name is walt, i go to undergrad at pitt so ive been here for awhile. I like the area, like the weather i was once confused as to whether dental school was for me. but fell in love with it when i volunteered at childrens hospital. I consider my self a nerd( darn proud too). but im also really chill, i get along with everybody and im not afraid to make new friends but im still going to keep the old. I dont really know if im going to specialize or not but i really dont want to think about that now, cuz who knows what the future will bring. anyway, let me know what the other pitt or future pitt students are like, if they really care that i started this thread. if u got in, but something made you not want to come, here anything people. also if ur interested in the school but dont know what to do, who to talk to, esp... I can get ur questions answered to the best of my ability.

alright everybody, keep on smiling. 😀

walt :luck:

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how did you find out?
I wonder if I should give Rose a call?

Congratulations man. I am from Philly(originally from Michigan) and waiting to hear from Pitt. I want to go to either temple or pitte and waiting from them too. Also being a steeler fan would love to go there. It's great time to be steeler fan now with ben Roethlisberger and company and Superbowl might be coming to Pittsburg. if not Pittsburg then probably in Philly.

She called me and told me to come to her office she has an early christmas gift for me. So i ran up there and she told me. it seems like when ever someone turns down their acceptance is when the call. they dont compare us to the next group i dont think. i think we get first stab at it, before the do, since we interviewed first. they believe in rewarding your hard work of getting it in early. good luck man, im really trying to see you up there. :luck:

Yea it seems like its a great year to be in PA. and to be honest pitt was my first choice. I also applied to temple but the rejected me. dont ask me why? but it was for the best. Like i told ddsjeff, if you applied early or at least waiting on them you have a good chance because from what ross told me, they have accepted people as late as may. so keep your head up. im trying to see a fellow philly guy here with me too. hell im tryin to see any body who is cool here at pitt.

Congrats on your acceptance...what an awesome early Christmas gift! I was just invited for an interview at Pitt today. I'm excited to see the school and Pittsburg.

Wow, congrats to you, its really exciting that you got the invite. Not everybody get that here. Plus i think you will like it, they treat you so great that day, brunch in the suite section at the peterson event center. The person that interviews you will probably be extremely nice. If you have any question, just send me a PM( that what they have on here right?). IM is the same name. good luck with everything, hope to see you and everyone else who wants to go to pitt. Rose is a good person to get to know, dont be afraid to call her and just keep in touch with her. she really helps alot, ddsjeff knows that, right playa 😀

Yea i know you guys went through it these two weeks. but im still going to enjoy it. i still think dental students work way harder then med students and these two weeks proved my point. Plus as you know, that library is my home, so im use to being there all day. I believe im ready for the work. Im just not ready for the lack of sleep... :scared: :luck:

Hey! Congrats on your acceptance!!! 🙂 I'm Jess and I guess I'll see you in the fall since I'm also becoming a Panther! Whoo hoo! I go to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, but I'm from Long Island in real life. Have you started looking into housing yet? I can't wait to get all the details worked out and actually start dental school...omg, such craziness! 🙂 My screen name is Jessica1219 if any of you future Pitt classmates wanna say hi! Hope to talk to you soon!

Hey, I'm also a proud member of the class of 2009. I've lived in south Florida all my life so Pitt is going to be quite a change. I really liked everything about the school and the city when I visited but that was before winter. I'm finishing up my last semester at Florida State and I can't wait to visit the city again during my spring break while I look for places to live. Does anyone know how big our class is going to be? I know it says about 80 but I saw at this site that a class was 89, what's up with that? 89 is not about 80.

Anyway, my AIM is Toonaholic. Holler back.

To start of with, welcome and congrats. anyway, the class size is usually 75 to 80 no more then that, the class with 89 was special because they gave acceptances and everyone pretty much took it, thats the reason for that. Rose told me that, that will never happen again.. they dont like that cuz they have to split the class in two in order to do the lab work.. anyway, hope that answers your question and if you have anymore dont be afraid to email me or AIM me at princewalta.aight :luck:

Thanks for the info. That makes me feel better. Dental school is an adventure I'm really looking forward to.

hey guys & girls,

I would like to know "when" and "how" we pay the tuition, equipment, student fees (i.e. by semester/term, semi-annually etc). Can somebody explain me about this?

If you are international students like myself (Canadian), how did you take your money to US? money order, cheque, transfer to US bank, sent by family????

thanks a lot

-Loan money will be sent directly to the school and credited to your account. The school will take enough to cover tuition, instruments and university fees. Anything over and above that will be sent to you as a "refund check" (if you have multiple sources of financial aid then you should get more than one check).

-The checks come twice per year, in two equal installments (except the first check your first year--that will include $1500 extra to account for the downpayment you made to reserve a spot). The first payout will be well into September (so make sure you have enough to live on until then) and the second will be in January (and it has to last all the way through August, so be careful not to overspend that first check).

-Your refund checks will have to cover a number of expenses, so it's up to you to allocate it properly. Plan on the following:

--living expenses ($15,000/yr to cover rent, food, transportation, entertainment, etc.)
--health insurance (you'll get ~$2,000/yr for this, so if you opt for cheaper premiums than UPMC Health Plan you can pocket the rest of the dough)
--books (you won't spend anywhere near the full $1300, so don't worry...again, any money left over can go towards living expenses)
--summer fees (maybe a few hundred dollars that's not included in the tuition)
--professional fees (that is, optional memberships to groups like ASDA or Student Research Group)
--some equipment like replacement burs or additional typodont teeth (it's all pretty cheap, though, with the exception of loupes--if you want them expect to pay at least $775).

Congrats on all your acceptances. 🙂
