Hello.
I was wondering if there is a place where I can find people's old personal statements from their apps. I am just curious about what people have written. Is there a place where some have been posted or anything?

Thanks a lot.

I haven't seen to many posted. It would be good if someone were to set up a site and allow people to post their personal statements along with how effective it was in the application process.

naa, I don't think so, think of how easily it would be for someone 2 copy it and paste it somewere. The majority of our population don't use SDN, so it would be really difficult for a stolen essay to be caught....my 0.02

Jeesh,

Just write your own essay for crying out loud! Its not that hard. Its a PERSONAL statement. Its about YOU, what makes YOU special, what YOUR interests are. Just keep that in mind and you'll write a great essay. cheers

That is easier said than done. While I agree that a PS is just that-personal-its hard to write one if you have absolutely no idea what a good one looks like. Thats like saying "just write your resume, all you have to include is all your jobs, skills, and activities". While someone may be able to do it (and have it turn out poorly), the best way is to see a few samples first just to get an idea.

As for finding samples of one, you won't find any here on SDN. If someone ever does post for criticism, they are quickly advised to take it down. While this board does tend to be a bit neurotic, there is good reason to take it down. It would be very easy to just copy and paste for someone lurking on the boards.

Your best bet may be going to Borders, etc and finding a book. I know there are many many books that have PS help and guidlines, along with samples. If you just want to read it, you can just sit in there and skim through it, you won't even have to buy the book.

You might want to check out the Barron's book, I forgot the exact title, but it has real med school personal statements from applicants who were accepted to some really top notch schools. Make sure, though, that you don't get too caught up in how others approach it. Just get a good sense of what's expected, but then, you have to figure out how you want to approach it.

LOL at the do not write like this essay in the old ps statements ....."I?ve been asked many times why I wish to become a physician. Upon considerable reflection, the thought of possessing the ability to help others provides me with tremendous internal gratification and offers the feeling that my life?s efforts have been focused in a positive direction."
