Hey, I have a little problem. I received an answer from MSUCOM last Wednesday saying that they reviewed my application and decided to put my app on hold so they can review my Fall10 grades. Do I take this as a positive thing? I am thinking that it is most likely my mcat score. I mean they could have just flat out rejected me but this can mean they are giving me another chance.

CGPA:3.93
SGPA:3.87
MCAT:23M

A lot of Volunteering. I work at a hospital. In the process of filling out Army hpsp application because I aspire to be an army doc.

What are my chances???? worried

Personally, I think you have outstanding grades and can't see how they'll go up any further. Are you a senior or junior? If you're a junior, maybe they want to see some more grades first, but if you're a senior, I'm equally confused as you are.

Yeah, that's probably it. "on hold for grades" may just refer to both gpa and mcat. I'd say try either calling and speaking to an adcom member or finding their emails and asking all of them how else you can improve your chances (b/c I also don't see how looking at Fall grades will help ... it seems as though it can only hurt you if you get anything less than an A)

Who knows honestly. MSU COM has a real bad attitude and think they are better then most schools. Hence their ridiculous requirements (ie reference letter forms, and tuition)

I am a senior lol. I just don't understand why they need to review fall grades. I guess I just have to study hard to prove once again that I can do well...

Most likely they are looking for ur upper bio grades if ur takin any this fall, they don't care that much about everything else. About MSU requirements I think its the best, it actually makes sense cuz they are asking for biochemistry and total of 16 chemistry credits... you don't have to take gen chem 2 which is generally pointless for med school. evaluation forms are the best anyyyyyyyyyyyyybody can fill them out,, for those that can't find a DO to get a letter from. Staff are the best very easy going..

I honestly think that you are fine... I had similar grades and a slightly higher MCAT score and was just accepted. I wouldn't lose sleep over it because as long as you keep doing what your doing you will be getting that acceptance letter soon enough.

Last year I had a 23Q, and between a 3.3-3.49 in both GPAs (science higher) and I got wait-listed here, I didn't get in bc they thought I was going to be taking higher level classes spring semester than I ended up taking. I chose to have an easier semester and study to retake my MCAT. MSUCOM has a scale that they weigh every applicant on and MCAT has less weight than GPA, volunteer/work exp., or evaluations. So, yes the MCAT is probably what kept you from just getting accepted but it isn't their biggest concern when they review your file again. Also my advice to you would be to call admissions and set of a phone interview with a counselor and she will be able to tell you what they thought about your evaluations, volunteer work, gpa, mcat, etc. She may tell you exactly why you were waitlisted and last year I was even told where I generally stood on the list.
