Im not applying this cycle but I'm taking a mcat class taught by a medical school student who took the old mcat. I was considering taking the mcat next year since I still have physics 2 to complete which is the only prerequisite left for me to complete for the mcat 2015; however, some people have said that I should take the mcat this year in Aug or September and get it over with and some have said to wait until I finished with all my prerequisites. Any advice on the issue would be appreciated.

I had completed Physics, Chem, Bio, and one half of Organic when I took my MCAT.

I didn't study any Organic for the MCAT and consequently got a 10, though, so it had its repercussions.

If you are comfortable teaching yourself material, go ahead. There was quite of bit of Physics 2 at my school that showed up on the MCAT, though. Probably the majority, actually.

There's no reason to shoot yourself in the foot at the outset. Take the MCAT when you feel most prepared for it. That's when you feel like you're most prepared for it, not what other (anonymous) people tell you online. Do you feel like you can self-study the topics you haven't covered in class yet on top of reviewing the other material? It all depends on how you budget your time and how good you are at self-studying.

For starters, I'm not particularly sure why you're taking an MCAT class with a student who took the old MCAT. That doesn't seem very useful. You can probably find superior advice related to preparing for the MCAT on here for free (find the MCAT Discussions forum), so I hope you're not paying that individual. The MCAT is not something you want to "get over with"; it's one of the most important components - perhaps the most important - of an application to medical school. You want to take it when you're ready and do well.

Lol.

I agree with that.

Is the OP going to be spoon-fed content review, or what's the enormous benefit you see there? It seems like most MCAT-prep companies are known for having unpredictable tutoring quality, in any case. My apologies if I offended you. I noticed from looking through your past threads that you teach a MCAT-prep course.

Haha you didn't offend me, its just that not many people have taken the new test. But all instructors have to take one of the new practice tests at least.

There's not really any benefit to taking it in the fall versus taking it in the spring next year if you're applying during 2016. I'd take it when you are most prepared, which is probably after finishing your prereqs.
