Hey everyone, is my plan for the next few months regarding the mcat and AMCAS.

I originally planned to take the MCAT earlier, but don't feel quite ready so far. I want to now take it in May. Hopefully I do well the first time (need a miracle probably, but gotta try haha) and have my scores back in the summer. If I don't do as well as I would like, I would schedule another MCAT later. I plan on submitting AMCAS in early June.

So ultimately, is a May MCAT a good date to take? Does it give room for a retake if necessary and still be considered early?

Thank you everyone!!

May MCAT is fine assuming you do well.

May MCAT is not fine if you account for the possibility of retaking and being considered "early."

You will not be an early applicant if you retake a May MCAT.

Say you got the result back at the beginning of June and decided a retake was in order. If you could refresh the study materials and get a new seat within a reasonable distance from home by July 1 or so (a month later), then the second score would be available by ~August 1. If your application already had the transcripts verified, you had received and returned the Secondary (where schools don't screen) and the second MCAT score was the only component remaining to be Complete, then your application would still be in "early" by my definition.

But what is the chance you could get another seat that quickly, at that time of year, in your location? It isn't always easy.

And some schools don't send Secondary invitations until they screen your entire application (though you could prewrite them anyways, from prompts found here on SDN, so as to return them quickly when invited).
