Well, I am starting to make plans for next year's round of apps...There is still a glimmer of hope but just thinking ahead. I am in Denver and I am planning to apply to CU. It is a MD program and is somewhat of a disadvantage to me. I would much rather go to a DO program, but in the end I will most likely go for ED so OMT isnt as important, but would like to learn it anyways. Anyways, my question is if I am going to be looked at strangely on either side for applying to MD and what is the best wayto handle the related questions?

Iam a little confused, are you applying DO? Because you are on the osteopathic board but asking about CU which is an MD program.

People have many different reasons for applying to DO schools...to each his/her own....you can always respond to the question of why you also applied MD by stating that "you wanted to maximize your chances of becoming a Doctor and apply to as many schools as possible" ...just make sure you are well-prepared to answer the question of "why osteopathic medicine"....good luck

I interviewed at both MD and DO schools and was accepted to 2 of my 3 DO schools and still waiting for the 1 MD response. I was going to write you a big long description of my interview experience, but instead I will give you a link to a blog that will do a much better job than me of telling you what to do and what not to do. I really wish I had seen this blog before going to my first DO interview (which i promptly bombed), but it doesnt matter because I didnt like the school anyway.

Anyway, here it is. This guy "Malo" served as a CCOM interviewer for a year and has some really great advice, and some great stories... enjoy

be wary of banking on CU. I'm instate and have not received in interview for two cycles now from CU. You'd better have some stellar numbers to get an interview there - almost as bad as the California schools at this point.

DO schools. There are several within a day's drive. If you want to do EM, DO schools put a good number of graduates into EDs. Go where it feels right.
