In the interest of doing something besides stalking the mailman and trying to think of anecdotes that make you sound good in interviews, I thought I would suggest something we can do that will take 2-4 mins of your time, and might effect your veterinary experience.
There is currently a farm bill in Congress that includes provisions for expansion of vet school facilities, and programs that include loan forgiveness etc. for large animal/public health vets, lots of good things for us as vet people etc. etc. Unfortunately as far as I can tell, there is a good chance that it is going to be vetoed by the prez, which means it will get kicked back to the senate. This is where you come in.
The link below will give you some info about the bill, and a pdf link to the name and phone number of the person you need to call for your state. You talk to them for a few minutes, you tell them what you want and that is that.
Theoretically, congressmen are supposed to vote the way that their constituents desire, and you as a constituent have the ability to call their office anytime you like and tell them what you want them to do. My dad calls his all the time to complain about our bad roads, old people are a hoot, but that is how the system is supposed to work.
If I am completely wrong about this bill let me know, I know only the USAHA side of it, maybe it is full of pork and shouldn't be passed. Get it, a farm bill full of pork
I kill myself.
