I was advised that to score 20+ on the DAT all I would need to do is to review the Kaplan Big Book and take a whole bunch of sample exams like DAT Destroyer, DAT Achiever, Top Score and exams from Kaplan. Is that enough to get at least 20 on all the sections?

You'll be fine. I used only the Kaplan book, and Kaplan tests to score 20+ in every section.

Never used Destroyer, never used Achiever, nor top scores.

Did the DAT for you only had questions from Kaplan then? And didn't go more in depth? Or did you have to pull from your archive of knowledge from the classes you've taken? Do you think a person who didn't have much of a science background and did Kaplan would still score 20+???

People are going to suggest different things. There are brilliant people out there who don't study much more than a couple of weeks with a review book and score 20+, then there are those who study for months and only recieve 18s (heaven forbid 17s). It's all about finding where you're at.

Buy a couple of supplemental programs (Topscore, Achiever, Destroyer) etc. And do them only after studying Kaplan materials. Figure out what you don't know and what you're least comfortable with. Then learn variations of those problems. It's all you here; no one else.

Just studied Kaplan and took their practice tests.

No.

To add to this, the focus of my biology classes really did not reflect well on the DAT. Other than the respiration/photosynthesis, the majority of what I learned in class was far too specific and not on the DAT.

My background is science oriented, but extremely far from any biological or chemical sciences. I already had physics, math and english, so I took the bare minimum prerequisites required for the majority of dental schools (2 bio, 2 chem, 2 o-chem).

Just study the Kaplan material and you'll be fine.

Used mainly Kaplan--did really well AA and TS are 23+. Also had DAT achiever and topscore, but I feel that topscore is redundant and DAT achiever is useful only for extra PAT practice. I felt that Kaplan is more than enough (except if you want to ace the PAT) to do really well b/c of the vast library of practice exams and subject tests. Never used destroyer. By the way, my PAT is 20, however I was getting something like 23 on the Kaplan practice tests and ~18, 19 on DAT achiever.

I owe my scores to Dr.Romano,Nancy, and Destroyer. I kid you not when I said I knew every last useless fact that could possibly ever have been on the DAT(check out the amsie's dat destroyer review thread for proof and for good bio review!). Chem was my weakness, along with the QR. Destroyer took all the things I knew, condensed it down into easy-to-approach questions, and then made me aware of the things I was forgetting and needed to reinforce. Just be cognizant of the fact that Destroyer is not the first step in studying;you need to have a strong background in basic material before you can begin to do the Destroyer problems. With that said, good luck:luck:

I have posted a threat asking for suggestions on improving my scores for the DAT. I have been studying for about weeks after work and a little more on the weekends. My scores on the DAT Achiever are terrible. I am scoring low's in the 12 and 14's. What can I do other that study more? Or how can I study to improve these scores? My test is December 9, 2006. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you use topscore to get a feel for taking the test on the computer but use the destroyer to fine tune your science knowledge. If you understand every question in the destroyer you are set for any DAT question. Trust me...
