hey everyone,

So I have a BIG dillema, I am applying to both Canadian and US programs this year and am not sure how to rank my Canadian programs. As you probably know the Canadian match is first, so if I get a spot I will be pulled out of ERAS. However, I have interviewed at some incredible places in the US (BID, MGH, Yale etc etc....)

So here's my question.... do I rank BOTH U of Toronto and McMaster OR just U of Toronto (my top choice). Has anyone heard about McMaster's IM program? what are the fellowship placements, I havn't been able to find this info anywhere.... I'm loosing sleep over this... if I do IM in the US how easy is it to come back to Canada?!?!?

Mac's IM program is really strong. To my knowledge most of the faculty like teaching. The call schedules kinda rough, but with the new pairo rules you get paid for call. I know a few mac IM grads who got fellowships, both at Mac and Toronto. It may be tough to compare it with MGH and co though.

Sorry I can't directly help you with this question. Perhaps you can help those currently, or in the future, who will face similar questions. Can you compare your impressions of some of these incredible US institutions to those in Canada. U of T is the academic powerhouse in Canada, as I understand it, how does that compare to MGH or other top-tier US institutions vis-a-vis: clinical training, research, current resident happiness, etc.. A review of any or all the programs you interviewed at in Canada would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best of luck in making your decision!
