I have a Garmin 340c and I have a love-hate relationship with it. Mostly love, but for some reason it has a weird obsession with US Route 1 (one of the worst in New Jersey, and that's saying something), and sometimes tries to make me take it even though it makes no sense. But it has been invaluable when I needed to go to many unfamililar places and when I just moved to NJ. New Jersey is not like nice Midwestern cities where everything is numbered, I would be lost here without my GPS.
What I like about my model:
- it speaks the names of the streets (not all GPS models do)
- it comes with several mounting options (I hate stuff on my windshield, but actually mine usually is on the passenger seat - I rely on the voice, not the picture)
- it recalculates route quickly if necessary
- it can speak in many different languages and accents
What I don't like:
- sometimes it chooses suboptimal route, I cannot figure out its reasoning
- driving through the mountains, it sometimes looses signal
- it is pretty bulky compared to some newer ones
- finally, the car charger cords constantly break, I think I have to get a new one every half a year or something, but it may just be me...
