Could you please critique my school list? Thank you!

This is a tentative list of schools I'm thinking about applying to:
Harvard
Penn
Columbia
BU
Tufts
NYU
UConn
Pittsburgh
Maryland
UMDNJ
Temple
Case
Nova
USC
Pacific
Creighton
UNLV
------------------------------

I'm interested in these schools because they're research-oriented but I don't know if they're receptive of OOSers:
UCSF/UCLA
Michigan
UNC-I don't have anatomy though 🙁

I'm not too sure about these. I don't know what requirements/state preferences they have. Some are new schools.
USN(Roseman)
Buffalo
UNE
LECOM
Louisville
VCU
Western
Detroit Mercy

Could you please suggest schools to add if I'm missing any, or to remove if I'm not competitive? On a side note: can I apply to schools where I'm missing 1 or 2 prerequisites and take them in the spring or summer?

I would get rid of about 10 of those schools and save yourself $1000

I'm a MA resident. 3.9+ sci, nonsci, and BCP gpa. 22TS, 23AA, no section below 21. I've 1000+ hours research experience with a publication and ideally would like to go to a research-oriented school. I've 150+ hours of shadowing so I think meet all school requirements.

Tufts: your homeland, apply.
NYU: NO

UCSF/UCLA: not sure if you really want to go here.
Michigan: Apply. They pay for your PhD.
UNC- ONLY apply if you really want to go there. otherwise, cross it out.

On a side note: can I apply to schools where I'm missing 1 or 2 prerequisites and take them in the spring or summer? Yes

I'm fairly certain that you will be able to receive interviews from anywhere. If I were you, I would apply to

  • Harvard
  • UPenn
  • Columbia
  • NYU (safety)
  • Tufts (safety)
  • BU (safety)
and call it a day. It'll save you a lot of money, and trust me you will get into at least one of them.

I think you're projecting your own chances onto me, Mr. 24AA. Every aspect of your application is a notch better than mine. 😀

Thank you for your input! I'm thinking about applying to ~15 schools just to be safe. I'll probably add Michigan and a few state schools as reaches in addition to the ones you suggested. Money is not an issue. I'm graduating and I'll be working full time while I'm applying so my limiting factors is time for writing secondaries and flying out for interviews.

I go to UMDNJ and I don't recommend going there to anyone who wants to stay sane for the next 4 years. Also, it's not a research school. It's more clinically oriented.

Yeah, I wish the admissions process was as predictable as Doeadeer believes, but I'm afraid that's not the case. Then again, doeadeer's stats are also above the averages for every dental school in the country, so he may be able to call everywhere a back up based on averages.

Anyway, I interviewed at Michigan, and I think you should definitely add it if you have an interest in research. If you're looking to apply to around ~15 places (incorporating Michigan, UNC, and 3 Texas schools you said you wanted to add), I would suggest:

Harvard
Penn
Columbia
Michigan
Tufts
NYU
UConn
Pittsburgh
Maryland
Temple
Pacific
UNC
3 Texas schools

Best of luck.👍
