What's the difference between getting into a Top-Tier MD/DO school versus getting into a Mid or Low-Tier MD/DO? At the end of the day, don't you learn the same stuff and at the end of the day you're still a doctor upon graduating.

Quality of teaching and oppurtunities for research can widely vary even with a standardized curriculum. Also school prestige does play a role when applying for residecy. If you go to a top school, chances are you have a good chance at at least landing at your school's hospital, which can be a reach for many coming from mid-low tier places. Also, some of the top schools trying new changes like 3 vs 4 yrs of schooling, or step 1 after clinicals etc.

There can be certain advantages to going to a higher tier school. The education may be more rigorous leaving you better prepared, you may have better research/EC opportunities, and you may have opportunities to work with some of the big names in your intended field. That can all help significantly when time comes to apply for residency. All other things being equal, I'd go with the higher tier school.

Of course, reality isn't always quite that neat. Some upper tier schools can be malignant, and there are certainly people from lower tier schools that do very well - they just tend to be the ones who really go above and beyond.

yup

Just connections and bragging writes. The saying is "Your only as good as your last level of training"

So just get into a fancy residency program and your set 😉

Really though... all US MD programs are accredited by the LCME and will teach you what you need to know to be an excellent doctor. Its the same info.

medical students in top tier schools get free government healthcare, free insurance, and their own personal security detail because they are considered to be worth more than normal human beings

not srs.... one difference is that at top schools you get more $$$ for research

To be honest, the biggest differences is in the number of opportunities available for research and funding. Schools with big endowments likely have more money to fund your research project on domestic violence and your summer trip to guam to help lepers with their diabetes. At a school with a smaller endowment, you'll be dishing out the money for it yourself.
