Dear doctors:

May I ask you all a question (or rather a few)?

My younger sister is studying abroard in Honduras this summer and she was feeling ill, when she went to health services they told her that she must either receive a shot to the butt or take a whole bunch of pills (the following: duracef, anginovag, efectine D-capsula, and tusilexil jarabe). She opted for the pills. I've tried google-ing the drugs and all of the results are in spanish (except for duracef).

Could anyone please tell me anything about these drugs? What they are prescribed for / used to treat? Are they antibiotics, what kind of drugs are they? Side-effects? or even an american name would be useful.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Duracef=cephalosporin antibiotic
Anginovag=Lidocaine: local anesthetic...this wouldn't be a pill, but a topical liquid
Efectine D=loratadine with pseudophedrine (Claritin-D): Antihistamine and nasal decongestant
Tusilexil=A combination cold medicine for coughing, runny nose, congestion...

Sounds like she has some sort of cold or bronchitis, I'm not sure though. The Anginovag could be a spray for a sore throat or something. None of this stuff is dangerous. A few of the things are found over the counter in the US (Claritin, the cold medicine and maybe even the lidocaine if it was a low strength). Your sister should be just fine 🙂

thank you so so very much!!! i've been so worried, I haven't heard from my sis in days (its hard for her to find a phone to call the US or a computer with internet)

yes, she has had cold like symptoms and a very sore throat the last time i talked to her. my family was wondering what she had been given. i am very appreciative of your post. 🙂

thanks so much and take care
