Please help: Badly want PMR Summer Externship. Know any?

I am an MS1 at Wayne State University SOM in Detroit, MI. We only have one PMR externship in the area that I have already applied for. I was really hoping to land the one at Northwestern (heard it is great), but I was not chosen. I have been focused on this specialty for 2 years now and would love to get a better feel for the field this summer along with building my residency application. If anyone out there knows of a summer externship please drop me a line.

The Foundation for PM&R and AAP have an externship as well. It is research based, but often you'll also be able to spend time shadowing your PI in clinic.

The deadline is April 15th, so it might be a bit of a rush to get it all coordinated, but it's a shot. Best of luck.

interesting. there is a summer pmr externship in detroit?

you can apply to do research... might be a little late for the foundation.

or create your own by shadowing over the summer

The externship in Detroit is at Oakwood (in Metro Detroit). I have an interview this wednesday and they have two available spots. It's 6 weeks, but I'm not sure if it is paid because there was no mention of pay in the email I received.

I did use search and went through the thread you linked. I had exhausted those and was hoping to drum up some new ones, however.

Anyone see the UM/Duke game?! My heart hurts...

Also if you can't get a summer externship in year 1 all is not lost. You can always apply for an away elective in PM&R during your clerkships in years 3&4. There are many more of those out there and you can still use the 3 or 4 weeks to show off your stuff and maybe scope out a future residency program.
