I have not gotten accepted to any of the four schools I have applied to. I am wondering if I haven't been accepted because I got my application in too late. I submitted to AADSAS on July 26, 2006 and the Printouts weren't mailed until August 29, 2006 so I'm assuming the schools didn't get my application until early September. I feel really stupid for submitting so late, but I'm offering my stats to see what everyone else thinks could be my problem. To note, I interviewed at three schools (one didn't require) and felt confident at all of them. I have worked in a general practice for two years as well. Any insight as to where I went wrong, please leave me a reply! Thanks Much and Congratulations to everyone who's gotten accepted! Please post what date your printouts were mailed, stats, and whether you got accepted or not. Thanks!

Also, wondering what the percentage of spots left open after the first rounds are? Is it only a few spots or is there more like a quarter of the spots left?

No Hope for me? Oh...and I've been waitlisted at all of them so far.

Insane stats!! May i ask where you applied to?

Also, i'd wait it out.. i've heard that some letters arrive at varying dates within the same place.

Obviously, your stats are great, but the late application doesn't help. As for seats left over... many people get multiple acceptances, but of course they can only choose one, though you may be more qualified for the spots (academically), you'll get what they don't want, simply because they submitted their app roughly around June 1st... After 3 confident interviews, I wouldn't worry if I was you.

I applied at Marquette, Creighton, U of MN, and UNMC. Thanks to both of you. I am just really anxious and I realize it's still early on, but I'm used to getting things right the first time. Procrastination of the AADSAS does NOT work! 🙂 hahahahah

If I was a betting man, I'd bet 1/2 my savings that you'll be excepted. If anyone has a chance, you do. You just applied a little late, that's all. Just make sure your schools received everything. I applied to one school (New Jersery) that wouldn't tell me anything over the phone, but is still posting on AADSAS that they're waiting for additional materials! So...if you can avoid that kind of thing, and can get confirmation that everything was received, you should be fine. Patience is the hardest part.

what state are you from?

Don't worry...you'll get in. 🙂

Thanks, I hope you're right! I love your profile pic btw! hahahaha

dude, I have almost same stats, but a little higher GPA. I took my DAT in mid September and still got interviews at 9 schools and only went to 3 of them and got into them all. So i think you must have done something bad during your interviews or your answers we not good at all. Has nothing with being late.

But when did they get your application? (even if it was incomplete) Where did you get accepted may I ask?

Creighton didn't require interviews as far as i know...I know they were emailing some to offer interviews but someone else said they called and were told they weren't required...I wasn't particularly interested in creighton so i didn't go set one up. I guess now i should have. I did not go to undergrad there either. I am basically a go-fer... i do whatever is needed...i just wanted experience in the setting. I do anything and everything besides actually working chairside. I have worked with patients though on my own other than assisting. So i have had some patient contact. I sterilize, set up trays/ops, administer the IV drugs, do diode treatments, record information, help with finding research for doc's own research, etc...

Have you been waitlisted or have you not heard anything? where did you interview the same places as me? I have a hard time believing that I had such awful answers at the interviews that they just hated me.

Here's the deal, theres a whole thread on this somewhere, just a couple pages down the forum but i dont want to look it up.....everyone who called creighton was told by the lady that answers the phone that interviews were not necc. required...turns out it was not true b/c Dr. Ayers, the Dean who conducts interviews told everyone on this forum who interviewed there that the only way u could be accepted without an interview is if you were undergrad at Creighton...it makes no sense at all....my theory, i think the secretarys were just saying that so applicants who were freeking out b/c they hadn't recieved an interview would stop calling trying to schedule one....it really makes no sense at all....but i wouldnt' expect to hear anything if u didnt interview there, sry man..😎

U will get a huge package so do not worry...

obviously, it isn't your stats!!! there are only 2 things i can think of: 1) you did poorly on the interviews, or 2) your app. was in a little late at the schools you applied to. the second one is hard to answer until the cycle is over, but from what i have read on SDN, this cycle it seems that there aren't necessarily going to be a lot more applicants compared to last year but rather a lot more applicants who smartened up and applied REALLY early, so i think it is more likely that you are the victim of this new trend in applying to d-school.

i think you can call schools even now to find out what your interview scores are, so that might put your mind at ease. :luck: :luck:

"interview scores"?

OP, your mail out date is 14 days later than mine. Now, I highly doubt 14 days makes that much of a difference, considering people who applied later than you could have still heard back. There's plenty of things that could be holding you back besides stats. Do you feel that you have a very strong personal statement and letters or rec? Maybe your extracurriculars are lacking? Numbers are nice, but they don't make a complete applicant.

Though your stats seem impressive, why would one only apply to 4 schools? The fewer schools you apply to, the fewer chances you are giving yourself to get in. I suspect you will probably get in (unless as was indicated before, there is something you are not revealing-e.g. prior felon, etc.). But don't be doing this again to us.

people keep getting accepted until school starts, DON'T WORRY, this is only the beginning...

UoP who notoriously tries to get it's class filled early has only sent out half of it's invitations so far. So I bet most other schools are the same or less.

Deep breathe, relax...

There could be some other things going on here. Most schools quantify their interviews as well as undergrad attented, GPA, DATs, etc. If your undergrad institution was not strong, or a comm. college, that can really hurt you. If that is not the case, there is always the possibility that your interview did not go as well as thought. Some schools also will send out acceptances only to their strongest candidates first and wait to see what happens with some of their other interviews in dec-jan and then begin selecting individuals off of the waitlist for admittance. Based on your stats alone, i would say your chances of getting in are good, but again, I dont know where you went to undergrad and where you took your science prereqs. If you wish to divulge this information I can try to let you know if that may have any influence on the situation. Best of luck!

It's only December 6th. Most people who will be starting dental school in the fall haven't even interviewed yet. You'll get in. Your schools are probably just waiting to make sure they don't get 100 applicants with 4.0s and 29s on their DATs. Once they are sure that isn't going to happen, you'll get your letters.
