Hey guys,

Im new to this forum and hope i'd found it atleast 2 years ago. I graduated in Oct 2005 (biological sciences major) with a GPA of 3.4, science of 3.2. After graduation i decided to apply for dental school (i know very late). unfortunetly i postponed applying, and now that i want to apply to my desired dental school, iv found out that the deadline for them is Feb 1st (UMDNJ), i can take the DAT in a month (ill be ready by then), which will be around Dec 15th. and i just sent my transcripts. and we all know that aadsas takes about 6 weeks to forward everything to dental schools. which will make my application arrival around jan 15. now lets say with some delays it will be jan 20th. Do you think when they recieve my application 10 days before their deadline, ill have any chance of getting in? or should i wait for the next application cycle, which will leave me doing nothing for 2 years :scared: since there are no jobs for biology majors 😡 . please help me decide what to do. 😕 thanks alot. any help is appreciated,

If i were in your position, I would go ahead and study your arse off for the next 1.5 months and take the DAT in mid to late December, just before Christmas. The holidays would serve as a nice reward. Supposedly, DAT scores take no longer than 3 weeks to get into the hands of adcoms, so they should be there before the app. I have a feeling that most d schools leave a few spots open until the end, and if you post some great scores, you could find yourself in dental school next fall.

If you put in the study hours, anyone can get 20+ DAT scores, I truly believe that. If you're not working, you should have ample study time.

Find out the school's policy on secondary applications. You did remember that? If they'll accept an AADSAS toward the end, fine but will they then allow you a couple of days to turn in a secondary. Call the admissions office before you do anything. Good luck.

There are two deadlines.
1. The latest you can submit your application. This is the one from AADSAS.
2. The latest you can take the DAT. This one is from the school of interest.

Thaks alot for the advices. Airight I checked their application process and this is what they had:

"NO SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION IS REQUIRED
The New Jersey Dental School does not use a supplemental application, however there is a $75.00 application fee made payable to UMDNJ for the processing of your application."

So I belive as long as I make the payment, give them DAT results, I should be fine. Im also applying to 4 other schools beside UMDNJ:

tufts university
Boston University School of Medicine
NYU
Temple University

All 4 of these schools have deadlines by march. what do u guys think of these schools? I found out these should be the easier ones to get in concerning my low GPA with an above average DAT. Specially NYU, the tuition kills though.

One more question ,what does it mean when they say: " After December 1st admission to the New Jersey Dental School is on a rolling basis"?

HansWalker, I think you are right, thanks for the motivation and the hope. Studing 10 hours a day has started. 😀

it seems like you are pushin this stuff last minute...rolling basis basically means first come first serve..so its to your advantage to have your application in earlier...have you planned on doin dental or is this jus a recent decision cuz even if you pull a good DAT score they will still wanna see that you have had an active interest in the career like shadowin etc etc...not to burst your bubble or anything but its so so competitive now and the later you apply the harder it is...

True, im pushing things too late, but hopefully it will turn out OK. Im currently shadowing in a periodontist's office, so that might help+ studying my a** off for the DAT.
