Hello,

I was wondering if someone can help me decide whether to apply this year?
I took DAT yesterday and I got 19AA/19TS/21PAT. I was not thrilled with my score at all. I have 3.57 oGPA and either 3.3 or 3.4 sGPA. I am a Idaho resident and there is no in state Dental school in Idaho.
Do you think I have any chance to be accepted at any schools?

Thank you!

Yes. Apply to regional schools and private ones. Creighton takes a fair number of Idaho students.

Your set to go! Apply early! Apply broadly! 15+ schools!

Thank you for the advice!
Yes! Creighton is on my school list!

Thanks for the advice! But could you please explain what you mean by choosing schools carefully?
I am planning on applying to:
ASDOH
Western Univ. of Health Sciences
Midwestern University
Univ. of Louisville
Boston U.
Tufts
U of Michigan
Creighton
UNLV
UNC
Temple
Roseman U.
UW
West Virginia U.
Marquette

Thank you!

Yes, you should definitely apply. Obviously, this is just my opinion, but I'm going to suggest that you make some changes to your list. By the way, here are the average admission stats from last year:

I suggest you remove UNC, West Virginia, and UW. While as an in-state applicant you might have a good chance, I think the chances of you getting accepted to those out of state are slim. For instance, take UNC. Their overall average numbers aren't much, if any, better than what you're applying with. The problem is that my chart doesn't differentiate between in-state and out of state average numbers. The out of state average would be higher.

I suggest you add USC, LECOM, and NYU.

Best of luck.

I took out UNC and west Virginia from my list..
Do you think I should apply to more schools than what I have on my list?

With your stats, I would try for 15. Your stats are not bad. That's not what I was trying to say, so I hope you didn't take it that way by any means. You are the average competitive applicant, so you will have a very good chance. I would just replace those two you removed with two of the three I suggested. I think those 15 would be a solid list of schools.

No not at all! Your input has been a great help! thank you! 🙂
I am actually worried about being the average applicant.
I was planning on applying this week but I don't think I have enough time to make my personal statement a great one.
Do you think applying by next week will affect me a lot?
