Ok so here is my situation...
This year was my second round applying for dental schools. Although I have been rejected from some schools, some remain that I am waiting to hear back from. I am a Canadian student and I applied with a 3.33cGPa 3.0 sci Gpa, 19AA, and 21 Pat. However, I wrote the Canadian Dat in November so the schools didnt get my scores until mid December. So I am deciding what I should do assuming I dont get in for this upcoming September. I am currently taking a few courses to bring my science GPA up a bit and was hoping of reapplying as soon as AADSAS opens. Now here are my questions for the experts assuming I dont get in the entering class of 2009:

a) Should I retake the DAT? Or are my scores good enough?
b) Should I a one year masters program so in case I dont get in for the entering class of 2010, I have something to fall back on and reapply with for the entering class of 2011? (Does a masters even have benefits for dental applications?)

Thanks in advance for your help and support. If I do ever get in, this forum would have had a lot to do with it!

Try to get all As from now on.
I would suggest retaking your DAT only if you have anything lower than a 17 in any section of it. Personally I would choose a postbac just so I could raise the gpa ever further.

Good Luck

You applied late...apply earlier...

Do really well in those science classes you're taking now and retake the DAT. While a 19AA is a respectable score, you don't want to apply for a third time just hoping that you'll be accepted with a 19AA. Since you have a lot of time before you have to apply again, why not study really hard for the DAT and shoot for a 21AA? It makes a big difference, and it's totally doable if you study hard!

As for the 1 year masters program, I say why not? You'll be working towards a masters, and you'll be able to prove to the adcom that you can handle graduate level classes.

Good luck to you!

Applying early is definately a good idea...do u guys honestly think its worth it for me to write the DATs again?? I got 19AA, 19TS, 21 PA, 18 RC, 21Chem, 17 BIO, 17 Carving....

I have written the American DAT twice scoring 17 both times and the cDAT was my third time writing.....so if i were to do it again it would be my third US Dat and 4th overall.....

Retake the DAT in early summer. Apply the first day AADSAS is available.

Personally I think that the 17 in BIO killed my App, which is why I say to retake DAT... Good luck to you..
