I certainly tried searching but didn't find much on the topic. I am 23 years old and was accepted to a public pharmacy school in california. During undergrad, I received grants and loans (for 5 years). I was under the impression that my grants ran out, and so I would need to finance pharmacy school with 100% loans.

However, I received a personalized email from the school stating:

I can give you a conservative estimate of how much school aid you will be receiving.

Grant funding in the amount of $11,602.
Subsidized Stafford loan of $8,500.
You will determine how much Unsubsidized Stafford Loan you will need to supplement the rest of your unmet need after you have received your award letter.

Is this really possible? It seems too good to be true??? I plan on calling the school but they are out on lunch. Anyone else heard of pharmacy students getting grants???? I don't want to call and they say OOPPS we made a mistake lol. Weird, please help!

Thank you

I was under the impression that in pharmacy school, one cannot get grants.

If it's the pell grant, I know I became ineligible for it as soon as I received my bachelor's degree. I have also heard from others without a bachelor's degree that the pell grant is not given to pharmacy students since we will be working on a post-bachelor's degree.

Maybe your school has other grants.

Moving to the Financial Aid forums. SDN has a Financial Aid forum on its main page, where you will be able to find this thread in the future, to follow up! 👍

Perhaps your school just has it's own grants that they give to students based on need? I get grants from my school, not from federal fin aid.
