I'm at a complete loss. Let me give you some background. I have been a behavior therapist (ABA) for a California school district for 5 years and I've recently been employed as a behavior therapist by a well known and well regarded California private agency. I LOVE my work and I want to become BCBA certified. My undergrad is in Sociology with a ton of Communicative Disorders (I wanted to be an SLP for a while) and Special Education coursework. I envision myself being a lifetime student.

I'd really like to tackle the Masters and BCBA first but I'm in a conundrum as far as making a decision on a program. Please help me make a decision! I was accepted to the Chicago School of Professional Psychology's Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on ABA program for Fall 2009. I've heard the negatives about TCS and frankly, they scare me. I envision possibly obtaining a masters or Phd in School Psychology after my Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis so that I can work in the California school districts as well as private clinics. I would eventually love to head up and completely overhaul my district's ABA/Autism department. One of my dream jobs in a district setting would be the Autism Specialist position. Currently, our Autism Specialist does not have her BCBA and it's a bit of a travesty (imo). Alright, this is where you all come in, below is a list of programs. I can't decide if I should go ahead and attend The Chicago School or if I should apply to the other programs listed below and wait a year or 6 months (I only applied to TCS, long story). Does anyone know anything about the programs below? Reputation of each school? Anything? Thank you!

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology MA in Clinical Psych. ABA emphasis (2009)

St. Cloud State Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis (Fall 2010)

CSULA Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis (Fall 2010)

Nova Southeastern's Masters in Counseling with an Emphasis on ABA (Winter 2010)

Why are you narrowing it down to these specific programs? There are plenty of programs in autism and ABA. I would steer clear from TCS for sure, but as far as the other programs go, look at faculty, research, student attrition and so forth. It seems like you're on the right track, but don't limit your options. Just because a program doesn't have ABA in the title, doesn't mean they don't use or teach ABA methods. Good luck!
