Sorry to ressurect this question. I'm having a hard time choosing schools to apply to without the MCAT score (taking it in August). So far I have 30 schools and I plan to cut 5-10 due to costs. I'm a NY resident.
My overall GPA is 3.55 and science either 3.56 or 3.64 depending on how retakes are calculated. I appreciate any input!! Maybe some of these schools don't like August MCAT or out of staters or my numbers are totally unreasonable. What schools should I take out of this list?

SUNY Downstate
SUNY Upstate
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY Stony Brook
NYMC
Mt. Sinai
Einstein
NYU
Cornell
Columbia
URochester
Albany
UMDNJ
RWJ
Drexel
Penn State
Temple
Jefferson
Tufts
Boston
UVermont
EVMS
Northwestern
Finch
Loyola
Rush
SLU
UColorado
CWRU
George Washington

cut out jersey, they take almost entirely in-state

Scrap BU. WAY too many applications and too many seats are reserved for special programs.

I'd cut northwestern...but my only reason is that I don't like them 🙂

Why Colorado? I'm not sure if they take many out of state people. That could be a waste. The same might be true for Vermont.

Keep all the SUNY schools for sure.

Cornell and Columbia might be a bit of a stretch for you.

Colorado because I have friends there. I was under impression that Vermont took a lot of out of staters. Yup, I know Cornell and Columbia are a huge stretch.

Why these particular schools?

Keep all of you NY schools, but do cut Rush, Loyola, Ucolorado. Since those prefer instate and take very few out-state. Your GPA is good and plan to make higher than a 27. I would include some volunteering (direct patient contact) and make sure to mention it in your personal statement/essay. Good Luck :luck: :luck:

Colorado is very difficult for nonresidents, since 80% of the slots are reserved for Coloradans, with another handful for WICHE (Native American) folks. Plus the out of state tution was only a cool $67,000 last year!! I do believe you can obtain residency after a year, but coming up with that pile of dough up front is brutal.

I'm a NY resident with similar stats. These are where I applied. I'm headed to Jeff.

I'd add Bob Jones Universty College of Medicine. I hear you learn to REALLY HEAL patients there. Its revolutionary.
