Hi everyone,

I am a new current MS IV who previously was interested in going into Internal Medicine. After doing my first elective during my fourth year (3 weeks of RadOnc) I realize that I am very interested in it, but feel like it may be too late now.

Here's a brief summary of my profile.
I have an undergrad degree in Bioengineering after which I went to medical school (lower tier) on the East Coast. In terms of medical school performance, I may possibly receive senior AOA (did well clinically during third year), and got 230+ on Step1. In terms of research, I have 2 publications (Bone and American Journal of Cardiology; 2nd and 3rd author), with a third being a radonc review article (1st author) which is pending publication. I am also working on a 4th publication (Cardiology).

I guess my main question is; is it too late? How competitive is getting a RadOnc residency?

You'll get more out of reading the FAQ in this forum. Briefly:

It is not too late, but you need to set things in motion quickly: do an away rotation, get letters of recommendation, etc.

It's good that you've done some research, although most is not in rad onc.

Your board score is good enough that you should get interviews.

Rad onc is competitive, but it is not unachievable.

Best of luck.
