Hi everyone, I am new to this forum & am doing research on how exactly to study for the OATs. I am pretty overwhelmed with where to even begin studying. I have the big kaplan book and science textbooks from college (ie biology, ochem).

I just wanted to get an idea of :

1) does ANYONE have an OAT study schedule (like a 90 day plan sort of thing) they followed and got good results from? (i've seen these on mcat forums)
2) how long did you prepare/study for the OATs? (ie, number of months)
3) any other material you would recommend for study purposes?
4) and if you don't mind, scores you received and experiences studying the OATs/how you studied??

Thanks so much!! 🙂

1. Personally, I just took it day by day. I didnt have any set schedule, I just changed up which subjects i studied each day so it didnt get too boring. Also taking a practice test every once in a while is helpful to see where your weak points are and focus more on them. It is a large volume of material but you just gotta sit down each day and work through problems/study.
2. 1 month of just casually starting to review things, around 2 months of serious studying.
3.Oat destroyer is useful. Also id would check out the practice test here https://www.ada.org/oat/index.html. From what people say its pretty representative of the real thing.
4. Im taking it this coming wednesday, so ill let you know!

Hey mjl,

I think first of all just allot yourself the right amount of time. Make sure you do this, because this will chase away a lot of the anxiety you will be feeling, b/c you'll know you spent the time preparing for this (not last minute). I would say study consistently every day (take one day off a week, if you want) for at least 3 hours. What I did, was try to have a weekly average of around 20 hours a week? So one day I'd so some really hardcore studying (like Saturday when I had more free time).

I gave myself 2.5 months to prepare (June to Mid-August). And once you have set your date don't try to push it back b/c you'll just end up procrastinating. The two weeks before I thought of pushing it back almost every day, but I'm glad I did not b/c I did just fine!!!

I used Kaplan books, my physics book (from my lecture), and chad's videos. THOSE ARE SERIOUSLY AMAZING!!! http://www.***********.com/forumdisplay.php?34-Chad-s-Videos

You have to pay $30 or $40 I think, but it's totally worth it!!!

So my scores were not out of this world amazing like some people on this forum. But they were decent enough to land me 3 interviews (ICO, PCO, and SCO) Sooo I'm not complaining. I got a 330 overall and 320 total science. My scores on individual subjects ranged. Just message me if you want those 🙂
