I've already matched and am going on multiple vacations for the entire month of May.

But I have this stupid little step 2 exam in the way... was supposed to take it a week ago, but realized that I've studied maybe a total of 4 hours and was not prepared.

So anyway, I have literally zero motivation to study. Anyone else have this problem? Jeez... I was such a good student BEFORE match day...

Hey Guys, this is a little off topic, but why are there so many posts about step 2 in here (ie more than step 1). Am I wrong in thinking that Step 2 is totally unimportant compared with Step 1 (as far as residency admissions is concerned)? Isn't Step 2 more important for FMGs?

hahaha...

Actually it is pretty important. You gotta pass Step 2 to graduate from med school. And a LOT of people put that shiznit off until late in the year. Then, after match day everyone mentally checks out. If you haven't taken it by match day, then you have a real problem generating any motivation to study for the thing. That probably explains why there are so many posts. Some of my classmates are just now taking it! LMAO. One of them is AOA, he blasted Step I out of existence, but he is sh*tting his pants now because he just took the test after studying for only a day or so, and he's convinced that he failed it. Too bad for him he won't get the score back for a coupla more weeks.!! LMAO....

Seriously tho, one girl in last year's class put off Step 2 until after the match. She had already matched in ENT, and she just blew off Step 2. Welllll... she failed it. And there was not enough time to retake it before her intern start date so she lost the spot! She had to basically take an involuntary year off just so that she could take and pass the exam. The program she matched at had no choice but to find someone else to fill her spot. I dunno if she had to reapply or what but it seriously ph*kked her plans up. And this year everyone was talking about her as a kind of cautionary tale....

That sucks.

Thank god for me that Step 2 is not required for me to graduate. I know someone who took step 2 after his internship year in internal medicine, did not study for it one bit, and did very well.

beezar,

you know someone who took step TWO after his intern year? Does that mean you don't have to take and pass step 2 in order to start residency? I'm one of those ppl who did very well on step 1 and blew off step 2... and now I'm crappin my pants thinking i might've failed it (just took it last friday). Let this be a motivation for those of you who are blowing it off... the feeling of waiting for a score you think might be below 176 is a very unpleasant one indeed.

I just took Step 2 yesterday.....ever since then, I have been thinking what will happen if I failed it. I thought it was hard, and I may have failed it. I looked up about a dozen questions I can remember and got most of them wrong.

I start a transitional year in Pittsburgh and then anesthesiology in New York (I hope I passed!!!), but I did the paperwork for the Pittsburgh program and Step 2 was required only if you are going to be a PGY-2. The state of Pennsylvania granted me the license even before I took it. As for my school, they require you only to sit for the exam before graduation, not necessarily pass it. So I should be in the clear???

I'm wondering that if I failed Step 2, will I still be allowed to enter my intern year and then take it again, or will my anesthesiology residency kick me out before I even start there?

Let this be a lesson to all the third years out there...TAKE STEP 2 BEFORE THE MATCH!!!

I'm baffled as to why anyone would want to wait till after the Match to take Step II. You don't have to report your Step II score to ERAS or to any of the programs you apply to unless you opt to do so. Plus, after the Match, you want to CHILL! Not study for the boards! Is there something I'm missing here? 😕

-wanna_be_DO (passed Step I and II, matched and chillin') 😀 😀
