Who on the SIU, NYU, or other waitlists has a spot at another school and will go if they are not pulled off of their first choice school waitlist. Maybe the list wouldnt be so long if people weren't selfish and would just be happy that they have a spot somewhere, or if people wouldn't hold multiple acceptances! It is so annoying, and very self centered! How many of you put your acceptance essay or said in interviews that you are devoted to helping people, claim community service, and are a people person? Yet you are doing just the opposite by screwing over your colleagues by holding multiple acceptances or not giving up your waitlist spot if you have an acceptance somewhere else! That is the worst kind of hypocrisy! In fact, it would be fair if students this selfish lost all of their spots after July 1st if they were unable to make a decison by that time. Then waitlists would move and the students who only have waitlist spots would have a fighting chance at an acceptance. PLEASE reconsider your approach, pick your school, and give up your other spots. Especially those accepted to programs that start after the earlier starting schools like SIU's. UIC is one case. By taking a spot you might later give up to attend UIC (or another later starting school), you're severly hurting your peers and leaving open spots in the class that can't be filled so far into the semester. If you are honest and finally make a mature decison, you'll be the person you said you were in your application process and can enter your profession with a clear conscience and stong ethics.

well, i understand where you are coming from and I understand where the others are coming from. personally, i already rejected NYU and other schools and made my decision on where i am going. but if i still did not know yet where i wanted to go (i understand its pretty late and you should arelady know where you want to go), then i would be doing the same thing. i would still be holding on to those school because you got to understand that going to dental school has been a dream for many people. and they are not going to drop themselves off a waitlist just to open a spot for someone else if they are still not sure where they want to go.

this process about choosing a dental school, is not about helping other people or being nice to others, it is only and mean only about YOURSELF. it may sound selfish, but we have all worked hard to get here and the last thing im thinking about is how others feel about it. this is a very important decision.

but i totally understand how you are feeling. if i were in the same situation as you I would be furious as well. and im pretty sure that if you were the person that was holding on to many schools, you wouldn't about how others felt either. but you have to understand people are still waiting to get into their number one school, so they may keep their holds for awhile now.

anyways good luck. laters

Hey man calm dwon. Breathe and repeat three times. Now just look at it this way. They are holding onto two acceptances because they can and you can't. They are doing it becasue the application process is crazy. What if you were accepted to your state school 2 weeks before classes start and save 100K. Look at it this way. If you were to get an acceptance you will get it in the end no matter what. there are many reasons people do it.
I don't have great stats and I will be in the same situation as you are come next year. Who is to blame for this situation. ME. Doesn;t matter the circumstances, it is my fault. So calm down and relax or get the stats schools want.

Wow, I wanted to post to say that I admire your maturity and acceptance of the fact that the person most responsible for being successful with the dental applications process is yourself, the applicant. Seriously, it takes a lot to realize that and then even more guts/maturity to admit that. I can tell you will be just fine in the coming year 👍

Just for your information, you need help on your kissing-up skills. I wouldn't be that inclined to help anyone that called me a hypocrite. The whole "please" after the word hypocrite just don't go well together.

RELAX. I believe most schools would love to have a full class so even if someone declines an offer late they will still contact other applicants at the top of their waiting lists ( I seriously hope you are not located further south of that list cos if you are...). If U are meant to go to any of those schools this year you will. The worst that can happen is that you get to start late. I don't think people holding on to their acceptance letters and holding out for their best choice is a bad thing. I believe they have worked their butts off to be in that position and they deserve the opportunity to make the best choices for themselves. Just keep praying and never lose hope. If you are gonna get in, you will and nothing will stop you. Goodluck! :luck:

A SCATHING example of pride from the bottom looking up...

Selfish...self-centered...hypocrisy...fair...selfish...honest...mature...clear conscience...strong ethics...

Those are a lot of powerful words for someone who is obviously SO SELF-LESS to be throwing around...

So...you would like people to get off their deserved position on the waiting list at SIU, UIC, etc. So you can go to bed tonight knowing that you are #12 on the waiting list at these schools instead of #15...

You're right...hypocrisy is SO SELFISH...

Finally, someone who follows the golden rule! Thank you! I am in fact very high on three waitlists, and am growing bitter. I am tired of people talking about how they are accepted at their backup schools but on waiting lists at more desired schools while some of us have nothing yet. Also, several schools have said that after a certain number of days of classes they can't let people even if they have an open spot or two. And given the non-uniform start dates of the schools, this is bound to happen, and adcoms will even admit it. But I guess if I don't get in this year I can spend my gap year doing a lot of hunting and modeling.

You preached selflessness and yet you are guilty of being selfish. You are essentially only watching out for your own little tail. Think about it, would you still be truly happy if all the people above you on the waitlist got in but you didn't? I highly doubt the honest answer is yes. You just want the waitlist to move along enough so YOU can receive an acceptance.

People who currently hold multiple acceptances have earned them. Develop a better attitude and maybe next year you'll be among them.

let's be honest, there is a reason why some people have multiple acceptances and others are on waitlists. you're just going to have to cross your fingers and wait your turn. in the mean time, perhaps you could clean up your attitude?

ps: if this is what you do in your "gap year", why would any schools want you next time around?

there is a reason why your on the waitlist. your priorities are messed up. you said it yourself. if you dont get in you will model. hello, you got to do something that shows them you want to go to dental school. i can also model, but why would i do that when my main focus is dentistry. get your priorities straightened out and maybe you can get in next year.

You missed the point. I didnt say that people with multiple acceptances didnt earn them or deserve them. But the time has come to stop enjoying holding multiple spots and pick your one spot, because we all know we can only hold one no matter how much you want to hold more. You are sitting on something you can't use and is going to go wasted.

Perhaps you should not criticize my gap year plans since you do not know them in their entirety. Modeling bikinis and shooting large game with a giant gun is just part of the plan. I will also compete in the Miss United States pageant. The rest of my plans are my business, so don't judge them if you do not know them.

First off...The abbreviation for "You Are" is "You're" not "your" as you put it. How do you know what my priorities are and what I will focus on? How do you know that what I am doing will not show them that I deserve a spot. Perhaps modeling is only a small part of it. Plus this way, when you are swimming in $200,000 in debt I will be debt free due to some part-time modeling jobs. Oh, and by the way, I am going to use my .300 Winchester magnum to kill some big game too! We all have a severe sense of entitlement, but at least I am not reading into other's gap year plans and being judgemental without all of the information.

I know the kids who have multiple acceptances have worked hard, but by keeping their names on acceptance lists for multiple schools, they are simply demonstrating typical human behavior. Remember the research on people who will stay on a public phone even when they don't need to if they know someone is waiting? You are hoarding what you don't need in order to keep it from someone else. Come to think of it, that is what my dog does with a toy he has long since lost interest in to prevent my other dog from playing with it. Woof Woof!

shooting big game huh. that's awful. anyway if someone is holding onto a waitlist spot with no real intention to go there then that is one thing, but if they are on the waitlist at their first choice school there is no way they should be obligated to give up that chance just because other people didn't have good enough stats to earn their own spot anywhere. my .02

First of all, I did not miss your point; you missed mine. Let me repeat myself. Don't call others selfish when all you are doing is watching out for your own interest, not others. Answer the question- would you still be truly happy if all the people above you on the waitlist got in but you didn't?

Second, don't accuse others of jumping to conclusion when you are doing the same.

How would you know that these people are holding multiple acceptances out of spite? Miss, you are way out of line.

Lastly, don't call them kids. You'll be lucky to call them ur classmates.

Forget about modeling, you are ugly. Forget about dental school, your attitude is terrible.

is anybody else secretly hoping she gets rejected?

pretty much i think everyone is secretly wanting her to get rejected. she obviously was not good enough to get accepted yet. just keep modeling babe, because so far you just got that going for you. and also 200,000 debt is nothing when you start working. see you are already jumping to conclusions thinking that i will be 200,000 in debt.

personally i just dont think you will get in this year because its getting late. and im not going to say "good luck," im just going to say "luck" because that is what you are going to need. laters.

Lets face it, she already is rejected. Still on the waitlist at this point in the game, your done!

What is the point of holding on to multiple acceptances?

If I don't get in to the one school that I'm applying to this year, next year when I apply to multiple schools I will most likely rank them and if school #3 and #6 both accept me, I will let school #6 know that I will not be going there while holding out for school #1 or #2.

yes but at that point you'd be holding on to one acceptance (school 3), not multiple acceptances. She's talking about people who currently have deposits are more than one school, like holding on to both school 3 and 6 in your example.

Superhuntress, I can relate to the frustration of waiting being on the waitlist myself, but I would reapply if I were you. it's unlikely that we'd get off the wait list at this point, especially since tuition dates for many schools have already passed.

Do you do both at the same time? That would be pretty sweet.

what a moot post... haven't all but a handful of schools started classes already?
